hey guys i just recently joined your fourms and i have a veyr noobish question. i have an 05 4runner v8 4x4, this is my first 4 wheel drive vehicle. now before i get flamed to hell id like to state that yes i did search and i have not found exactly what im looking for. i was just wondering when i should use the center diff lock? if toyotas tractioncontrol system diverts power to wheels with grip why would i even need this feature? thanks in advance and i hope i didn tjust over look something in my search.

You should lock the center differential when you want power split 50/50 to the front/rear wheels. Locking the center differential also disables VSC. So if you are stuck in the mud/snow it'd be a good idea to lock the center differential.

Diesel chevy gets stuck trying to help me out

my friends ford pulling out the chevy dude who also got owned (he was acting all high and mighty until he sunk but still a nice guy for trying)

yea so eventually we got a truck with a winch out there to pull my ass out. and the lesson learned was i need a lift and some mud tires as well as some experience or i drive it like every soccer mom on the road.
