Just wondering what all the hype is about the Scion hu's? What makes them so much better that everyone on the board is putting them in. I've personally never tested one in person that's why I'm curious. What are the advantages of the Scion hu over the stock or JBL 4runner hu's?

Scion head units
Scion offered a iPod compatable head unit in 2006 . It allows complete control of the iPod from the head unit, along with playlist, song name, etc, displayed on the headunit.
These are usually offered on ebay (model T1806).

Hmmm...I kind of figured about the iPod connection, but I know that people were doing this before they put that feature in. What kind of sound controls/options does it have? I mean, do you have full control over the EQ such as Bass, Mid and Treble? Or are they preset EQ's that I know the base model radio has which suck? I'm just trying to get an idea of how good this thing is. I guess I'll never truly know unless I know someone with a TC, huh? Thanks for your replies =)

The reason I upgraded was because I wanted an 6-disc in-dash changer (they don't make these anymore) and the MP3 playback (2003-2005 4Runners don't have this). Compared to the stock headunit, the Scion units put out a better range, the clarity is much improved and the bass is pretty good for something that's stock. It's perfect for people who want something that plugs right in and improves the sound over the stock headunit. But if you're an audiophile, it will leave you desiring something more. I personally think it sounds great for something that only required me to unplug my old unit and plug this one in. The flexibility of it is pretty good, you can pick between tC, xB and xA models within the headunit as well as Neutral, Feel and Hear modes. So you can play around with them and pick what you like the best.
BTW, you can't install the Scion unit in a JBL-equipped 4Runner without modifications.
Having said that, I recently plugged in a JBL Nav system with a digital JBL amp from a Sienna and it sounds much better than the Scion unit I have.

not sure if this has been posted... But I put subs and amp in an 08 Scion TC and the radio has RCA pre-outs just like an aftermarket radio.
The best upgrade I have made so far to my 03 Runner is the Scion Radio, new for $60.00 off Ebay. I also upgraded the door speakers and they are second in line to my upgrades. I initially wanted the Scion Radio for the CD connection for aftermarket IPOD hookup. That worked well, but the radio upgrade alone was worth the effort. Later I added XM to the existing aftermarket IPOD cable using a Pioneer INNO and now have that too.
If you go to the Scion website you can view the specs for this radio, and for a exact fit it is a great option. The radio layout functions are good too.
