i also got the t1807 and installed it in my 06 sport edition. took me longer than 25 minutes but it is much better sound than the factory radio. next project is the compass mirror............
 
Hey guys, just scored my T1807 off of ebay as well. Question though. Is this the stock HU that has the ipod controls? If not, does the AUX option still work when cabled into our Runners?

Unit arrives on Monday, then I will begin the teardown process.
 
Ok, did some more extensive searching, and from what I can tell the AUX will work, and the T1807 has the plug for CDChanger controls if I want to go down the PIE ipod integration route.

So in summary: T1807 - One Silver knob in the center - AUX control, no direct iPod without some 3rd party adapter, no color change controls
T1806 - 3 silver knobs, iPod integration (if a cable ever surfaces?), color change button.

One other suggestion: I read several posts regarding removing the SCION name from the HU. What about a custom T4R.org sticker we can place over it? Then the mod would be complete!

Ok...i really dont mean to sound like an @$$ here but i was just wondering..

whats the big deal about the scion HU?

Why not go to a retailler and buy an aftermarket radio that has more power, better looking, more features, and better sound quality for not-so much more?

The scion HU looks ok in well..scions, but when they are in 4Runners, now you have a scion logo on a main area of your dashbaord, idk...mayb im missing something about themm?

Like i said, not bashing or anything, ill support any DIY project out there..just wondering why not go that extra mile and get something sooo much better?

no big deal, i did this because i was leaning towards the stock look with a little better sound quality than the stock on my SR5.. i've always had aftermarket radio on my previous cars, it's just that this time i didn't feel going that route... i'm pretty sure a lot of my fellow members would agree to this...:)
 
The big appeal of the Scion HU upgrade is 1. Cost - only around $100 on ebay for a new one, when I got mine. 2. Steering wheel controls still functional 3. Looks like it belongs in the car

For the price and ease of installation, its a hard to beat upgrade over the standard factory unit. If you are truly an audiophile, I'm sure its not for you. And certainly not desireable if you are a "mobile installer".

Who gives a flip about the Scion logo? No one in my car has ever commented on it, and I sure don't notice it.
 
Ditto, cost and a direct plug and play were the main options I was looking for. This is my first ride with the steering wheel controls, so I didnt want to lose those either.

As for the Scion logo, I dont think it looks all that bad, I just came across a forum on here where members were looking to remove it. A T4R.org would look sweet.
 
Ignorance of Scion unit here! Does the Scion support the dual antennas (like the OEM one)? On the non changeable color one - can you remove the bulbs and replace or paint them for a different collor or are they not accessible? Assume they both play MP3 CD-Rs? Are there RCA plugs for addon amps?

As far as the Scion T1807 see pic below...

It does support dual antennas, you have to drill or remove a piece of metal covering the second one. I dont know about the possibility of changing the bulbs, though it does match the 4Runners orange color. It does support MP3/WMA/CD-R discs. And finally there are no RCA plugs on the back of it.

I can definitely tell a sound difference versus the stock headunit. Sounds much better for as cheap as they are on ebay. I paid like $53 for mine off ebay brand new in the box.
 
Finished my install up yesterday am, and boy what a difference. Deck lights up real nice in the pm as well. Installation was extremely easy, read in one forum here regarding dropping screws down into the console so I draped a rag over that area (and it helped). Only other thing that caught me off guard was when removing the assembly below the steering wheel the little plastic ring around the ignition when flying.

All in all a pretty easy $60 mod.
 
much mahalos (thanks) for everyone who contributed to this mod. bought my '03 SR5 a week ago and the first thing i did was find someone who was selling a scion HU and picked up a T1804 for $50. HUGE improvement over the basic stock system.
the sound enhancement features are great especially for mp3 playback. being able to burn 100 songs onto a CD is very nice. the castulucci instructions were incredible. took under one hour. didn't even connect the 2nd antenna. not sure if it's for AM or what but FM works great. no good AM stations out here anyway.

btw, asked someone at a local toyota shop about this mod and he said it wouldn't work - HA! what do they know anyway...
 
2nd antenna is supposed to give you better FM reception. I just cut the metal off and plugged them both in. If you search in the forums another member found that the reception was alot better with both plugged in.
 
what do you mean by boominess? low-end reverb is still noticeable at the highest volumes, but overall sound quality is much improved. however, i am thinking about upgrading the front 6x9s to clean that up. anyone have any recommendations?
 
The boominess I was talking about is the way you have turn turn the bass down several notches and the treble up a ways to get a decent sound out of the factory radio. The speed sensing volume settings just make the booming worse.

On a different question, how much of the song name does the Scion radio display with an XM module added, the stock radio displays the first 10 characters.

PA11-toy vs PAC iPAC

Today my Scion T1807 HU arrived in the mail. I now have a Aux cable to buy, but can't decide between the PA11-Toy or the PAC IPAC to connect Ipod. I have searched but not read much about the PAC IPAC.

I want atleast some Ipod control from the T1807. Has anyone seen both used before ?
