LAst night at about 10:00 I decided to go ahead and take the plunge and install the Scion head unit I bought on ebay last week. Although it looked daunting, it was really easy. Thank God for Castelucci's instructions!!!! Had everything have gone right I would have had it all done in about an hour. Unfortunately, there is always something that doesn't.
A little spring clip on the top of the big center 'horseshoe' flew off. It fell to the bottom of the front of the center console. In order to get to it I had to get a flashlight. Just when I had a finger on it, i accidently bumped it beneath the rear air duct! DAMMIT!!! I ended up having to remove the little front piece of console, pull the carpet out from the side of the console and force it behind the duct until it came out of the bottom on the floor. I was steamed. Everything else went great. It just took about 40 minutes longer and the hardest thing was forcing thew carpet back under the side of the console.
The sound is much improved. I wouldn;t say that it is as good as some of the other high end component head units, but much better and I wanted it becasue I get to retain the use of the steering wheel buttons. Glad I did it.
