I bought a brand new, never touched, 2005 6-disc Scion unit off eBay for $225 shipped and love it! The difference in sound is amazing and the install was ridiculously easy, but I have a few questions.
There are 2 connections (circled in the picture) on the back of both the stock and Scion HU and I'm wondering what they're for. I searched my repair manuals and couldn't find anything that would give me a direct answer. I'm referring to the 12 pin R4 and 20 pin R5 connections. One of them was/is connected, I think it's the R4. Anybody know what these connections are for? From the repair manual, it looks like the R5 connection is for the rear-seat audio, but the Scion doesn't have this option.
Is one of them for the steering wheel audio controls? I figure they could be for the XM radio and the bazooka tube, but it seems universal (for Toyota at least) since the 4R has the same connections. What else can plug into them? Sorry if that was confusing!
Also, has anybody successfully removed the Scion/Pioneer writing on their unit?
