Scion radio in a 4Runner?

A few years back when I had my '89 Land Cruiser (so sweet), I put a Scion radio in it. Required very minor trimming, but the plugs matched up perfectly. Nice, Toyota!

Wondering if the same is true for 3rd gen 4Runners?

I do believe it is possible and done before. Look also in Accessories or Audio section-if you have the Head Unit number that may assist the search.

I believe this was covered over on YOTA TECH about 2 years back it was quite the rage to use Scion head units in the 3rd gen Runners.

All Toyotas have the same radio harnesses. I LOVE that.

I've got a few adapters I've made for other brand radios, makings installing radios so easy. I just installed my old Pioneer into my friends Corolla using an old Toyota adapter harness spliced to a Pioneer harness. I made another one for Alpines which is in my car now, and another for Kenwood which is in my mom's 4Runner.

Very good 3 Toyotas that I've installed radios on and the same harnesses

Yessir.

For example, I have a 4th gen radio that is a direct fit in any Toyota vehicle, much like the Scion radios and such. You're good to go!

Theres also a tutorial around there somewhere showing what has to be trimmed. I have a 1808 installed in my 00' but not sure about the 1814 being the same plug and play application.

Thanks for the pointers. The one I linked above is the 1814 which has rear USB connector for iPod connection but I would also like one with an audio input jack on the front in case I don't have an iPod but a regular MP3 player or such.

I'll check around in the audio section.

Not quite true ..... MOST of the Toyotas from 87+ share a harness. Some vehicles with more "upgraded" factory systems will have unique plugs (IS300 is one, others with nakamichi, mark levinson systems, etc can be others)

The scion deck will plug in to the 4runner though ..... i have a different style from my tC that i'm selling as well... not quiet as cool as that one.

Toyota has different plugs for some vehicles. I have a 96 runner and was going to swap head units from my cd player tape deck double din to a double din unit out of an fj and the plugs are similar but they down line up correctly and the contours where a little different
