Scosche kit or OEM bezel?

Hello All,

Did my search, my findings were limited. Here it goes:
When installing the factory Navigation to a 4R with the JBL in dash 6changer, there WILL be gaps around the Nav unit. The only 100% cure for this is the radio bezel from a "regular" Toyota CD player equipped 4R. However, this bezel costs something like $331.34 (part #: 55405-35340, partznet).............There was mention of a Scosche kit (TA1465b, about $5-10 depending where you look) that apparently is another option.....Has anyone gone this route?? How does it look?? anyway, thank you very much!

Thanks for the picture!! Did you have the "regular" radio before installing your Pioneer or did you have the in dash 6changer?

Regular 1 CD & tape JBL setup, but honestly I think it was $50 set stamped with Toyota logo and JBL at the factory. So glad I got rid of it.

I found this SCOSCHE KIT for the 2006+ (aren't 2003-2009 radio mounting the same????) 4Runner......appears to be a kit for a double din HU. I know the JBL 6changer is larger than the "regular radio" 4runners come with........ and when people try to upgrade to an OEM factory navigation or a 2din aftermarket navigation, their choices in radio trim bezels are very limited. As stated before in this post, you can get a bezel from an SR5 (no JBL) which will cost big or the aforementioned scosche kit (trim piece).

Then I found this: Scosche kit: TA2079BHas anyone tried this kit? Anyway, I'll be ordering it and report on how it fits and such.

Hello all,

Just to keep this thread informative, I installed my E7009 today (FINALLY!!!). This bezel indeed fits the center console for JBL in dash 6changer EQUIPPED runners. It must work great for aftermarket NAVs, but for a Toyota OEM NAV, no way. I had to dremel the hell out of it. Looks ok (a lot better than having gaps around the NAV head unit.

I think if you can't get a center dash piece from "regular CD player" or NAV equipped runner, then this option is acceptable. Gotta have a dremel (or whatever), but trust me, it won't fit.

Good for: Aftermarket NAV/radio
NOT good for: Toyota NAV (you will have to heavily modify it)

Here's a picture, tough to find the faults, but they are there. The Scosche bezel (Scosche kit: TA2079B) is HEAVILY dremeled.

1) One can see where the dremel tool skipped and nicked the side that faces the interior of the car. That was my fault.
2) If you see (it's very dark, i still can't get a decent photo of it) between the HU and bezel, on both sides and the bottom, there's a gap.

Conclusion: I can live it, it's not perfect, but it dissimulates the gaps between the unit and dashboard bezel.

Better fix: Get a Dashboard/radio bezel off of a 4Runner that has/had the "regular" CD player (SR5), you will notice by the radio opening, the original bezel is "recessed" in toward the dash...........this is the correct one to have!!

Hope this helps anyone who plans to embark on this project. I'm not done yet (I have to wire up the bluetooth and voice to the amp), but so far, it's been fun..........thanks to this forum!! :hatsoff:

Yes it was. I had the 6 in dash changer with a JBL amp in the back (from the factory). If my runner DIDN'T come with the 6changer, the NO modification of the dash would be needed at all.

Okay, I HATE the way this looks and DO NOT want to go this route when adding my NAV in my 4runner. Does anyone know the part number for the toyota facotry bezel? Do you have to order that whole entire dash assembly to cover it up or does it bolt in where the radio goes, I can not find it anywhere.

Honestly , there are 2 issues (if you are OCD like me).

1) OEM radio bezel: Yeah, it looks like complete ASS if your 4Runner had the JBL radio. If you had the "regular" SR5 CD radio or nonJBL radio, then this is a non-issue. The radio bezel of an SR5/nonJBL radio has the radio openings perfectly cut for the NAV. The JBL radio doesn't. JBL radio is FLUSH to the dashboard and the NAV is not. Anyway, I don't have a part number, go on partznet.com and look for the radio bezel for 2003 SR5 with the nonJBL radio/CD player.

2) HVAC controls: Not sure if you have a Limited or not, but if you do, you will have to change the HVAC as well. See thread: http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-g...ay-controls-airbag-light-now.html#post1072862
This isn't a HUGE deal, again, you can obtain one on ebay. They pop up from time to time. That is how I got mine.

I really like the look and functionality of the OEM NAV, however, as you can see, it's a little painful to get it JUST RIGHT LIKE IT came from the factory.
