Scrambled Radio Screen!!

Does anyone know if the 3rd gen's radio is serviceable? My display screen is all jumbled, saying the Dolby is on when a CD is in, and the numbers are all messed up for tracks and time. It is only the cd/cassette player, not the JBL setup. Should I just look into buying a new or used Yota radio or can this be helped?

I don't know if this will help you but...

I don't know if you have a 3rd or 4th Gen, I fail to remember. The radios, at least some of them, have an external amplifier and some have it internal. I have heard from a lot of people that the external amp, which is located just below the radio itself, is the better way to go. I guess there is no servicing the radio, you have to replace it. I am going to replace mine right after I first fix a faulty AF sensor (I hope!), there are a lot of junkyards around and the radios are all over the net!

This has happened on my 07 Sport, I've only seen it happen in the summer though, still waiting to verify that through the next few seasons. The display gets scrambled but the player seems to still work. Sometimes I've had it spit out all the CD's in the changer. Each time this happens turning off the ignition and starting it up again fixes it.

Found someone here who's had the same problem:

Apparently from the service history of my 4Runner, a dealer did this under warranty: "REPLACE AUDIO UNIT WITH EXCHANGE UNIT" before I bought it. Seems that the problem still happens to the new unit.

Anyone else have this problem or find out the cause?
