scraping noise on the freeway

I recently took a roadtrip down to L.A. and back. On the freeway, especially at speeds of over 70 mph, I would hear a loud scraping noise when going through bumps coming from the front right of the car. My first thought was that the suspension was bottoming out, but that didnt seem likely. There was an unevn weight distribution becuase I was driving and my two passengers were on the right side of the car, but on the way home we switched the back passenger and it still made the noise on the right side. it wasn't the wheel grinding anything becuase the wheel had no scrapes on it and I think the wheel hitting the wheel well cover would make the car unstable and it drove fine. I thought maybe parts of the wheel well cover, the rubbery loose stuff, was the problem; there was one part loose from the fastener but I cut it of with a knife so it wouldnt hang and it still did it.


can anyone clue me in?

also, I had larger tires installed. I forget the size but I think they were 265 or something. I forget all the numbers and dimensions.

have you done any trimming of the plastic inside the front wheelwells?

the only trimming I did was cutting off a loose peice in the middle/front of the well. this was after the car was originally making the noise.

my 96 base 4x2 had 225/75-r15 for stock, was that your original tire size? u can look at the sticker on the driver side door frame. maybe thats why u gettin a sound?

my stock tires were in fact 225. my newer ones are 265.

maybe that is the problem, ur tires are too big from stock, and u didnt regear or somthing

Regear? the only problem one would have with not regearing after a tire upgrade is a speed discrepancy betweeen actual and on the speedo, right?

do you notice any scuffs inside the wheelwell on the plastic?
