Screw the rear window electrics!

Ive been going through my rear window electronics since I got this thing trying to get it to work with the switch, the relays work but im losing the electrons somewhere between there and the back corner. The oem harness has wire spliced in in places and other sections are covered with newer electric tape so who the hell knows? The PO said it didnt work when he got the runner sooooo...... Im getting ready to hack my hardtop into a "bikini/I dont know what". Plan is to cut out the sides, leave the rear frame for the back glass and only the top then add snap on canvas to cover the sides. Ive been rolling the rear window up and down with a jumper harness I made, two spade conectors going to inside the motor plug and a motorcycle battery. Just touch the leads to the batt, reverse leads to reverse window direction. Im wondering if anyone has considered ripping all that lift crap and wires out of the tailgate, and grafting in new sheet metal to hold a manual window lift. May not be convenient but screw it. Would the manual lift be able to support it? I hate dealing with electricity crap Im a machinists so metal working for me. And I need my battery back for my motorcycle soon as I finish its rebuild!

Seems like it would be easier to properly rewire the window then try to integrate a manual window crank.

I've mentioned before I'd love to have a fold out back glass setup like on a camper top, or 60,80,and 100 series land cruisers, or like the trekkers.

I prefer as simple as possible, especially when I'm in the middle of nowhere.

I mentioned it to a member here [MENTION=3959]slacker[/MENTION] who specializes in fiberglass replacement parts for these old rides, and also the trekkers.

If he doesn't, eventually I'll do one myself.

That's a thought. Seems like it wouldn't be hard to screw a barrel hinge into the top of the topper, and then fiberglass over it.

It's nice to be able to roll the window down while driving though.

It would be nice to have it flip open to protect you from the rain, or sun while
sitting on the tailgate.

Did I mention I really dislike messing with electricity. Unless it affects the vehicle running and driving I dont bother with it usually. I had a friend help with just wiring my light bar and CB. Electricity and radiation, two things that can kill you and you dont know its happening until its too late hahaha. I prefer it to be much simpler and mechanical. Now if anyone in the north east Florida area knows what they are doing with this rear window and works for beer that would be sweet because I sure as hell aint gonna PAY a mechanic to do it. I got this 4runner for practically free and its saving me money now.

And Im getting ready to hack my hardtop into a full leangth bikini with soft sides anyways. Barely going to use the rear window in the up position except for severe weather.
