Hmmm, maybe. I might borrow some nightshades if you still have some left. I lent mine to a TW member and never got it back. Maybe that will be my mod this weekend.

That's funny you mentioned it..I started doing mine but ended up finishing his set first.

Scenario:

While chating with Edwin on the phone and picture messaging him of the
finished painted housing/projector, I decided to mock it up on the truck to showboat my accomplishment further.:naughty: On top of it, I went ahead and grabbed the glass lens and just laid it against the housing all the while confident that the sealing glue would hold it in place. What do you know..10ft away and 2 minutes later, the glass lens fell under my watch and met concrete. Arghhh!

Found myself $90 poorer and a week behind on my own project. Lesson learned!

Yeah you might as well. I'm not sure what route I want to take with them, but it wouldn't hurt to have the materials around. Thanks!

Oh man, that sucks! I was frightened of dropping the glass, housing or projector while working on them. I wonder if you can get just the glass anywhere. I'm sure not, but it would be nice for the 96-98 guys. I definitely will be taking my time this next one as I don't want to make the same mistakes as last time.



I'm going to be switching up the shrouds I'm using for this retro. After researching and talking to rickashay, it was apparent the Gatling Guns wouldn't be ideal for the FX-R's. I ended up switching to a 3" lens to fill the headlights out more and I would have had to do some major remodeling to the GG's. Also they aren't very wide, so they wouldn't cover the FX-R's completely and again look small in our housing. I'm going to go with the Orbit's. They are 10mm widers and will cover the FX-R's a lot better and with less modifications. Unfortunately I didn't call TRS in time and they shipped the GG's, so I will have to make another order. O well, at least there is free shipping.

Thanks, but I'm switching from the GG since it won't work that well with my set up. Also I like the V2, but they don't work with FX-R's. I placed my order for the Orbits today and hopefully they come in right after my projectors.

i think they're called gti-r? or something like that, I wanted something kind of simple

If you're going for the FX-R set up, go for at least the Phillips 85122+ bulbs. They are 5000K and a lot better than the standard Morimoto bulbs. You won't regret it.

After they are painted they should look awesome! Just don't try to switch them when installing the lift you sly devil you

I figured I should post a couple of pics of the output I get from the Morimoto Mini's before I make the switch. As I mentioned before, they have a better output with the Morimoto ballasts and are pretty nice. If I had gotten the XB35's in 4300K in the first place, I probably wouldn't have decided to do another set, but I'm excited for my new set.

These are taken with my iPhone 4 in my 4runner, so they aren't the greatest, but they show a good idea of the output. Since I got my bumper I've been missing that close light that my fogs provided. I will be getting something for that soon, but I have no clue yet. Maybe LED fogs, but I have to research my options.

I also got my shrouds in two days before my projectors. It's just evil, but I can be patient till Wednesday. These things are massive compared to the Mini Gatlings. They should fill the housing quite nicely and provide the projector coverage I was lacking with my Mini's.

Great build dude, cant beat an awesome set of projectors. In other news, i would really like to hear how you like and dislike your Icons now that you have had them for a little bit. Mine are set to be rebuilt by them tomorrow and am trying to decide what to pair them with out back. Thanks for your thoughts on yours and for sharing your build.

Trust me I'm a noob as well, but I've been doing some research and we'll see how the next set goes. This next step will be a lot harder than the last and test my skills. I'm going to go slow though and get it done right. They look sick but the light difference is where it's at and it will blow you away.

I LOVE my Donahoe's (Icon's). They are extremely comfortable on road even with the 650lb coils. They feel much more controlled than my Tundra's and SAW's and have reduced the body roll a lot. I'm sure a rebuilt set would feel even better. You'll love them and I suggest the 890's or Toytec Superflex if you are sticking to a lower lift. I have heard great things about them and it will match the Icon's very well.

I am thinking i will have a very similar setup to what you are running suspension wise and keep bouncing back and forth between 265's and 285's. No problem at all and thanks. I hope I can help people with some first hand advice. I haven't heard of anyone not liking the Icon's either. I wish I would have 285's now and I'm sure I wouldn't have cared about the loss of power/mpg earlier, but I don't regret getting the 265's. Financially they were the safest option and they work just fine for anything I have needed. My advice though is to go with the 285's though. just because it's easier to drop down to 265's since more people would be inclined to trade 265's for 285's, but not the other way around. So go with the 285's and don't look back.

Also I could care less if my thread gets "mucked" up. These conversations will help others later and pertain to my build. Thanks for the comments and reading my thread.

Hello beautiful!!!

I got my TRS FX-R retro kit in the mail today. I'm in love.

SOOOOOOOO Happy I went with the 3" lens and the Orbits. They fit perfectly with no trimming and look amazing.

The almighty Osram SVS bulbs.

I plan on messing with these this weekend and getting them prepped for the headlights. The size of these things blow my Mini H1's away.
