[SD G-Mote]

I figured it was about time to get the build thread up and going. I started with the amazing rig that [MENTION=50014]Desert[/MENTION]dawg built and have slowly been expanding from there.

Trail Edition Package:

4.0L DOHC 24-Valve V6, Part Time 4WD with Active TRAC, Locking Rear Differential, Crawl Control, Hill-Start Assist Control, Tow, Navigation, Backup Camera, Bluetooth Audio, etc.

Factory Options:

Entune Premium with Navigation and App Suite, Voice Recognition, Bluetooth Wireless, Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System (KDSS), Cargo Cross Bars, Four Season Floor Mat Package

Modifications by [MENTION=50014]Desert[/MENTION]dawg:

• Toytec BOSS Suspension System removed

replaced Toytec Boss lift with Icon 2.5 coil over.... HUGE Difference...much happier!

- Red Adjustable Front Coils (adjusted to 3-inches of lift)
- Front Diff Drop (4x4)
- Toytec Superflex Rear Coils replaced

replaced with ARB Old Man Emu coils in the rear. noticeable difference

- Bilstein 5100 Rear Shocks (2-inch rear lift)
• Light Racing UCAs
• Body Mount Chop and Frame Reboxed
• Cooper S/T MAXX LT285/70R17 Tires
- 33 inches tall dumped these tire.... too much road noise

replaced with Toyo Open Country AT... much smoother and quieter ride!

How hard was the speaker upgrade? Was it necessary to run the amplifier or was that done as a 1-channel for the subwoofer?

The factory speakers have a magnet about the size of a dime. Which means it takes nearly no power to run them. I was afraid the Infiniti speakers would draw too much power and not sound very good if I just ran them on the factory deck. So, I ran the amp to provide more power to the main speakers. It's a 5 channel amp, so the front speakers are on two channels (front left and right), then the all of the rears speakers, including the hatch are on the rear two channels. This way I can also fade froward and back with the sound. The fifth channel is used to only power the sub. I ran a bass knob to control the bass as an extra measure and very glad I did. As the sound gets louder, I can amp it up or I can also lower it. I have found that if I just leave the bass knob alone, the bass can be really overwhelming in the lower wattage listening. Which is what I do most of the time. The bass knob really helps. I bought most of the stuff on amazon and through various websites. I did a lot of shopping around. I found a guy here in San Diego to do the install for me. I was going to do it, but for the price I could not justify the headache. Even though I have wired many of stereos in my life. All in all, one of the better mods I did on the 4Runner.

Whats Your Truck's Max Height?

Hey SD G-Mote,

Really nice looking 4Runner!! One of my favorite builds on here for sure. I ordered a Gobi Stealth rack and some Shrockworks sliders and now I'm playing the waiting game. All good though, I knew what I was getting into (both had approx 8 week lead times).

I'm curious, how tall is your truck? Does the light bar sit level with or slightly below the top bar of the Gobi? Any issues with fitting into garages or parking structures?

My rig will be very close in height to yours, same tire size, same amount of lift, and same roof rack/light combo. I need to clear 81" to get into my garage at home. Otherwise, wifey wont be happy, don't want that. The moment of truth will be about 7 weeks from now.

I've read other threads where the consensus seems to be that the truck should fit into a standard garage with the Gobi, 285s, and 3" lift.

How do you like the KAPPA's? I have a very similar setup, with KAPPA's in all the factory locations, I'm using a Pioneer 5-channel amp with remote subwoofer control knob. I also have the KAPPA 12" subwoofer to match. Did you retain the factory head unit? if so, how did you get your signal to the amp? Speaker wire harness or RCA line converter?
