Seafoam/MAF/Throttle body...

I put Seafoam in the oil, gas tank and the intake (1 can total) let it sit 15-20 min and then gased it hard for about 5 min---tons of smoke came out. I hit the freeway and smashed the pedal alot, opening and closing the throttle for about 10 miles. Brought her back home and took the MAF sensor out, cleaned it with the proper CRC cleaner real good, opened the throttle body and used CRC in there and on the buttfly valve too, then wiped it down real good. I then took the "wet" AFE filter I had out and put a factory paper filter back in.

This morning my truck ran like a new truck! I reset the computer by disconnecting the battery for about 10 min. The fuel avg showed 20.5 for the first time! That should equate to about 17-17.5 MPG. I can easily live with this MPG if its true.

Will be changing the spark plugs,the oil, diff fluid & transmission fluid Sunday...I want to let the Seafoam do its job for about 100 miles before changing these fluids. My Runner should be ready for many more miles after this.

I highly recommend doing this. I've read tons about these procedures on here but didn't actually expect it to make as much difference as it did. The truck idles alot lower and smoother, the throttle is immediate from a stop and there is no flutter whether at a dead stop or at passing speeds. This was a cheap and great maintenance procedure that made a HUGE difference!

I couldn't agree more! Seafoam is like liquid magic! I have used it a couple times and run it through the PCV valve and it always makes a huge difference. My truck has almost 200K on the original motor and Seafoams help keep it running like new.

I've done seafoam before but I didn't know it was that helpful, I'll be doing this again. Do you know of any other little maintenance tips like this that can help? I have a '97 4Runner so it's been seeing some wear and tear. I don't know much, so any advice for tuning/performance would be greatly appreciated!

<> I used AMSOIL 5W30 XL and their filter too.
<> Replaced PCV valve
<> Cleaned MAF sensor and throttle body---used CRC cleaner --2 kinds --1 for MAF and another for throttle body
<> Replaced air filter to genuine Toyota filter--had an AFE wet filter
<> Seafoamed: oil tank, gas and intake...1 can total---50% went in intake
<> Coolant is new and is Toyota pink coolant
<> Installed new Iridium DENSO plugs
<> Installed a magnet oil drain plug with a 2pc rubber & metal washer


The only things left are: transmission fluid was done at dealer 50k ago so time to do it again. I will be using Toyota WS fluid. I will then convert the diff to AMSOIL and likely the power steering fluid will get AMSOIL too.

All fluids will be AMSOIL, but tranny & radiator---I think they should stay OEM

BTW...I got 30 more miles out of my last tank of gas than before. I was getting 330 miles out of my V8, the last tank went to 360. I'm in L.A. and generally drive my truck hard and fast when L.A. traffic allows it. I commute 52 miles round trip daily---mixed: some stop and go and 65-70MPH speeds at every chance I get. I could care less about gas mileage, I've been paying well over $4.00 a gallon forever. It cost $80-$85 to fill up...

When its gone I put more in it and stomp it again!

Question. This SeaFoam stuff, is it to be sucked up into the PVC hose, poured into the gas tank and then crankcase? I've heard Garlits promoting it but I've never managed to keep a car more long enough to use this stuff.

Seafoamed mine (4 banger) just now
1/3 thru pcv pipe
1/3 engine oil
1/3 gas tank

Let it sit for a bit less than 10 minutes, started it.. no smoke came out.. gave it a bit of gas.. a bit of smoke came out.. took it on the road and reved it up to 4~5k rpm for a few minutes..no smoke.

The idle is the same but maybe it's psychological but the throttle response seems a bit better (I cleaned the MAF and throttle a few days ago)

I was expected a firetruck following me but I guess not.

Going to change my spark plugs and have an oil change this wednesday.
