Seafoam or not to seafoam that is question?

I just cleaned throttle body. And put half a can in oil and ran it for 500 miles before changing the oil. Not sure if it helped but the oil changed out was really dark.

I just seafoamed mine at 220K. Didn't notice any difference.

I would Seafoam the fuel system, but wouldn't suggest using it in the oil where it could potentially cause it to start using oil.

I agree ^^^ I seafoamed the fuel system and took off my TB and gave it a good scrub-down with seafoam, also ran some seafoam down the vac. lines while the truck was running, CLOUDS of white smoke came out when I did the vac. lines. I did NOT put any in the oil.

I think it helped my gas mileage slightly/throttle response.

The cloud of white smoke is all the gunk cleaning out. I don't see any issue with seafoaming every 50k through the pcv vacuum line.

A bit of seafoam in the oil should be fine. I do it to all my cars when I first get them. Cleans out whatever mess the previous owner left in there. If it causes an oil leak, just fix it.

I like seafoam. I use it every now and then, but I only use it in the fuel.

Sea foam is an additive that breaks carbon down.

When using it oil, it removes the carbon from behind the rings, breaks the carbon sludge down off the valve stems and dissolves it back into oil for the next oil change.

When using it in the intake manifold, it brakes down the carbon deposits on the top of the piston and the combustion side of the rings.

If you have to much carbon on the piston, knocking can occur and dieseling can occur when you turn it off.

Running it in the gas is pointless but this is my opinion, a good fuel cleaner is a better alternative.

seafoam is good to get 'caught up' on maintenance ignored. Once there, I like startron, read up on it a bit. It works very well for all my engines (auto, quads, small engines) and is much more cost effective ($20 for 512 gallons of solution). :banana:
