Sealed Trans service ?

Hi I'm going to bring my 07 v6 in for oil change tire rotate plugs and trans service.
when I called the dealer to set it up they said don't tuch the trans till at least 100k. I told him I tow with it and he just wanted to argue that it does not need to be done and if I did it 500.00 would be the cost. Am I dumb for wanting to change it at 30k and what have people been charged to have it done? Thanks for the help

I used to tow a boat a good bit, so I did the same thing you were trying to do and had the tranny oil changed at 30k. I don't remember the exact price, but I know I paid less than $100 for the service. I want to say it was like $70to $90.

Sounds like they did nothing more than drop the pan IF that which is 3qts of the 16.
 
I am a huge fluid changer... I am the guy that wastes money changing fluid too frequently and changing the WS out of your 4Runner at 30k is early (even for me) unless the boat is heavy and you tow a lot. I have changed mine, more here: I would suggest that 45k is a good interval for towing. (link) Toyota, not the Toyota dealer, recommends every 60k for vehicles that tow. (link)

It should not cost $500 but I'd be suspect if it was under $125 or so. You need WS or a synthetic Dexron VI fluid that says 'WS compatible' on the bottle (and save the receipt and a label just in case).

I used the Dexron VI on my second DIY "flush" (through the trans cooler lines) at 100,000 miles. Trans still shifts perfect at 130,000 miles, one year later. The hardest thing here is checking the fluid level with the built-in stand pipe at a certain warm temp, engine on.

Walmart sells Dexron VI by the quart reasonably priced if you want to do the DIY approach.

I will be again changing my engines Lub. fluid, drained the Toyota provided OEM oil at 1000 miles /1,069 Km.also used a Toyota OEM Densco filter.

That was about two years ago. As of today I think I have racked up a little over 1,500 miles/1,603 Km. on the V6 2wd SR5 4Runner bought new in 08.

Going to drain out the old Mobil 1 5/30 and replace with the same brand and weight, also another Toyota OEM Densco Filter.

But I don't think I will live long enough, to ever get my transmission fluid changed.:frog:

............and that is why I'll have the dealer do it. These sealed trannys are a pain!! I don't want to burn my hands/arms off. I was quoted something like $150. I'm at 76K now, so I'll be good until 100K.

What does this add to the thread? What is Densco? Its Denso.

I was charged ~$400 for 16qts of WS fluid + a complete fluid EXCHANGE, not flush.

I don't need another 4wd or another V8,as I have both already, Very happy with my V6 and 2wd 4Runner.
Sorry you have to live in a swampy State, where a 4wd is a must have just to get to a WalMart.:gun5:
 
I guess this goes to show that one should never discuss religion, politics, or trans fluid service!!
