I think the FJ belongs to one of the new guys in PNWSAR. I talked to him a couple months back. It is a pretty sweet ride, decent build too!

I love these rigs.

I went through search and rescue training while a member of CAP back in high school. I never got to go on any missions though, regretfully.

I'll hopefully be getting back into it once I find some time to complete the exams, make it to a meeting, and throw parts that are collecting dust onto my rig. Pierce County SAR even has a 4x4 unit

Nice to see some PNW'ers here.

My brother and a few of his friends were S&R for a long time. I used to go with them on these 2 day backpacking trips as a young teenager, and they taught me how to repel and such. Super fun. I always thought Id go into it too, but Im always on call as it is... just cant expect them to rely on me especially now that Im with the railroad. Cool sh!t though

No longer "PNWSAR" active member here!, too many surgeries to feel comfortable enough not to become a hazard out there. Sure do miss it though, nothing like going for a hike at 1 in the morning. Personally, I feel the best people you will ever meet are those who have been part of a SAR team, weird but good people....lol

Anyways the weather channel is featuring "cape D" in their coastguard series, it's cool to see local operations. Plus, I mean the deadliest bar in the world! It just doesn't get any better then that!

:yo: hats off to you guys, I wouldn't mind maybe sharing some search stories, ie. details, time frame, situation and stuff. Should be okay as long as we keep personal data out! What you all think?

The Ah-65 aren't all that small themselves, could only imagine the size of the coast guard helo. Use to do "LZ's" up at timberline the best was at night and watching the static between the blades! This was before the crash on the mountain. Sure would give my left nut to fly one though, hell I might even give both!

You have to be at least a little crazy/weird to be willing to go for a hike in the middle of a night to help someone you don't know. :biggrin2: It's all part of the fun.
You should join mountain wave! We have lots of stuff that doesn't require hiking.

Usually on Mt. Hood, we use the air national guard out of salem. Those blackhawks are way cool!

I just might have to do that, I've been looking for a reason to get into HAM radios. It's been many years but a fella named Tom I think was with your group. Well actually he was with many groups because he got payed for volunteer stuff, he was one of those odot emergency roadside drivers, drove a bad ass ford.

The only thing holding me back is my back! I just can't drive for more then 20-30 minutes without copious amounts of drugs, and that just ain't cool. When I'm ready I'd love to come to a meet, kinda see what's up, one of these days I will meet with y'all on the trail and get back to doing things again.

I would mind getting involved with hood river as well, those guys are masterful with the rope.

You talking about Rinella?
You should come to one of our meetings.

Ahh man that sounds familiar, I will have to find my old call out sheets and see.

When are the meeting, where? Feel free to PM me with the info, if anything all it takes is a couple meetings to get the bug again and want to help out!

It's kinda sad for people that have no clue about SAR, but man, many of happy memories of past searches, it would feel great to get back into the life.
