Alright. My 2004 key looks like this. "Dot" style.

With the HYQ12BAN 4 buton fob. lock, unlock, rear window, and panic (on back).

Manufacturer Part Number of fob: HYQ12BAN
And i read that Interchange Part Number is: HYQ1512Y

I want to get a key with the bottons together.

I found this It is made for the "dot" marking. uncut. would I have to pull the chip out of my factory key and put it in the new one. then reprogram the buttons. Or has anyone done something like this before with a pre-2006 4th gen? I'm new here. I did search, couldn't find much other than programing procedure.

Some members have brought it up before, I am unsure if the key can be registered to the 4Runner. I like the newer Camry keyfob/key combo, but I'm not sure if the TIS Scantool and 4Runner immobilizer will recognize the ID.

from my dealing while in parts....you cant. Its a camry/Scion/Avalon/Corolla key. The chips inside are not the same at all so you cant interchange them. I just asked a friend whose a tech as well, he confirms he has tried but its failed.

There may very well be a solution but as far as i know, its not happening.

Thanks LTDSC, I figured as much... I didn't bother checking the FCC ID's on the different Keys but I suspect that they are going to be different indicating different frequency IDs that the modules look for.

The FJ Cruisers used a sort of Keyfob/Key combo that was a little funky looking but might be usuable with the 4Runner? Again, without the keys to look at or any real idea of how to tell what makes them "Camry only" (I suspect the FCC IDs, but am not sure) I couldn't tell you.

Assuming the RFID chip fits, the only thing left is to determine if the factory alarm transponder is compatible. Paging [MENTION=66389]BlackWorksInc[/MENTION], have you ever tried programming the alarm portion at work before?

One possible difference that comes to mind is the difference in the RFID chips' encryption protocols. For example on the 5th gen keys, while they both look exactly the same, the older ones (2010 model) with the "dot" on the stem use a 40-bit encryption scheme, while the newer ones with the "G" on the stem use 80-bit encryption.

right, if i can get the chip out intact. and move in into the new key the only think would be button functionality. no one knows about that?

I've programmed new keys and fobs for my truck (When I bought it, it had only one set of keys.)

You could try and tear apart your key for the RIFD chip, you'd have to remove the chip from the new keyfob as well. The problem is that while the vehicle will probably start, you probably won't be able to use the keyfob because it has its own ID.

EddieBX, that's probably a very logical assumption, the encryption might be the deciding factor.
