Searching for a 3rd gen...

I just sold my '97 BMW 540i 6-speed and I've been looking for a clean 4x4 3rd gen for a couple months now. I keep second guessing myself on things like mileage and options, then by the time I decide I want one it's already been sold.

I have around $12,000 to spend, but obviously I'd prefer to spend less. I'd really like a '99+ Limited because I want leather and like the updated look with the climate control (this will be a business vehicle and I haul clients around often).

One question I have is how do you guys like the full time AWD of the Limited models and what are the advantages and disadvantages?

Another question, how many miles would you say are too many for your tastes? I'm definitely going to get a PPI and I'd really prefer to find one with records.

I plan on lifting it 3"-4", running 33" tires, and installing an ARB bumper with a Warn winch

A lift, 33's, ARB with winch.....on your business vehicle for hauling around clients? Nice! What business do you do?
When was in the market I set my max mileage limit at 100k for a '99+ and of course within my budget ($11,500). I worked out how many miles I would be putting on it in a year then looked for something that had had similar. (I also ruled out all Limiteds because I dont like leather seats.)
As far as AWD system goes, I think you'll find everyone who has it loves it (I dont have it), especially on the winter roads. The only real disadvantage in my mind is its harder to do doughnuts!

Haha, I'm a technology consultant. I'm lucky in the fact that most of my clients are in the steel business and other heavy industries.

That's kind of what I was thinking, right around 100k or so. I really like leather, and I definitely want the updated climate controls, so for me the limited is the way to go. I found a '99 Limited with 92k down in California for $10,800, I'm waiting on more pics. Only bad thing is the tan leather is showing signs of wear on the driver seat. How difficult is it to find replacement seats for these things?

Choices for bad leather are not great:

1) Buy new material from Toyota (way expensive);

2) Have an interior shop replaced bad panels (expensive); or

3) Get seat covers (wide selection/pricing available).
