Seat Belt Retractor

Mine now has 209 K miles . I remember having this problem years ago and I think the dealer somehow lubricated it . I don't believe they replaced it . I'm just trying to figure out how and what to lubricate .

7 years later, do we have any solutions for this? My 2007 has been having these issues for a while now and cleaning the belt helped but didn't solve the problem. I talked to the dealer and they wanted to sell me the part but wouldn't do the install themselves.

I fixed this issue recently on a different car (2002 BMW 540) by doing the following:

1) fully extending the belt and thorough cleaning it with upholstery cleaner and a steamer.

2) once it was fully dry, spraying some silicone on a microfiber cloth and applying a coating to the entire belt. i then wiped the belt thorough to remove any excess.

This worked wonders for me and the belt now retracts fully.
