I'm having some issues with my seat belt retractor. It is very slow to retract and I keep slamming my door on the damn buckle...does anyone know where to get a replacement? I already took it apart and tried to tighten the spring but it didn't make much difference.

i ahve done the same thing! but didnt fix anything, i guess this is why you were asking me if toyota has lifetime seatbelt replacement.... i dont know
 
i talked with my boss, and he says its a state matter, not federal... so in missouri its a shot in the dark if toyota dealers will replace seat belts, but if there is any malfunction of any kinda they should be replaced, but that is for kansas, i am not sure baout missouri.

i will call my dealers around town and see if i can get some replacements for free.

I was thinking the same thing! I thought anything regarding safety equipment was required to be fixed by the dealer. I know Nissan has a lifetime warranty on all their seat belt equipment. I've been looking around at some junk yards online and they aren't too expensive, around $50 or so. If you find anything let me know, I'll compensate you and pay for shipping if you can get one.
 
I already went up to my local dealer, they said no go. so I called the Toyota customer experience hot line and got a kid telling me that it was covered under a 6 year 100k mile warranty. So now I am emailing Toyota, I'm thinking about including something like "wouldn't it suck if I were to get in an accident and were to become paralyzed?"

Can you say lawsuit??? :awais:
 
Here's what I just sent....

I currently own a 1999 Toyota 4Runner with 135k miles on it and it has been an excellent vehicle since the day I owned it with the exception of one issue, the driver and passenger seat belt. It has been sticky for quite a long time now and was very stubborn to retract; now it has gotten to the point where it requires much coaxing to fully retract. It's got me quite worried because there is no tension on the line, and if I were to get in an accident it may not work properly. I already discussed with my local dealer the cost of a new seat belt retractor and it was $226 before labor, I brought up whether or not there was a lifetime warranty on the seat belt as well as other safety equipment and they said there was not. However Acura, Honda, Nissan, as well as Infinity all offer lifetime warranties on all of the safety equipment on their vehicles. Other then this one problem, I have been totally happy with my truck and wouldn't trade it for any other vehicle, with the exception of a newer 4Runner of course!
 
Thanks Qyota, but that's actually the article I went by when trying to adjust the retractor. I couldn't even get the belt itself out of the retracting mechanism even after I took out the metal rod. I pried and pried and couldn't get it out, I even tried a little lube and it still didn't work! I was really aggravated so I just gave up and now I'm gonna try and let Toyota mess with it. :cool:
 
I just called back and got a different guy and he said an 8yr 80k mile warranty. What gives? Do they shake a magic 8 ball for each caller to see what the warranty info is? I'm thinking about calling back, Maybe I will get a 10 yr 100k mile warranty or something, lol

I'm really kind of disappointed in Toyota. I thought they would fix it anyways, I'm surprised they are being outdone by Nissan when it comes to a warranty on a safety device.

as far as my 96,

nissan it is lifetime!

honda it is 4/5/00. anything before is lifetime and after is 10 years,

but i called toyota and they gave me 5 year 60,000

then i called superior toyota in kansas and they said 150,000 miles and 10 years, but must be registerd in kansas. kansas has a state law about this issue.

i think toyota is low balling on their saftey issue and see a lawsuit comming on!!!
