Seat Belts

The shoulder belts on 90 4runner no longer retract so invariably the belt gets caught in the door?? Before I attempt to disassemble the belt assembly; which appears be a matter of removing few pieces of door trim, I thought I would check with member's as to whether the belt can be repaired; if so, is it a 'do it myselfer' task ? Appreciate comments and/or suggestions.

Everything can be a do it yourselfer with enough research and determination. It sounds like the spring in the belt assembly is broke or frozen. Take the trim off,
yank the assembly out(its all of two or three bolts) and have a look,. If it were me i would likely get a new assembly and put it in to save any hassle of trying to fix it. The assembly shouldn't be much $. Worst case scenario if you take it out is it can't be repaired

The mechanism could be clogged up with 20 years of gunk too. I agree with the above. Take it out and investigate.

Appreciate the suggestions, and thanks for the link. Sounds like a good excuse to work on when the household is in an organized state of 'free for all' preparing the Thanksgiving dinner.

Again, thanks for the info; enjoy, and get stuffed.
