Seat Memory, can i install them!!!!

did anyone add it the seat memory on their SE, my family and I exchange cars here and there it will be nice to have. this will also help my dad a lot. thanks in advance.

The seat memory puts a computer between the switches on the seat and the motors that move it. Without the memory, the switches control the motors directly. So, you'd have to add a computer (Seat Position Control ECU) and the memory switch. It looks like the wiring is very different because of the added complexity, so it's probably not something you could just plug in.

OK i have look under the seat and i found a plug just look at the pic.
I mean it wouldn't be that hard. Toyota will not make some wire to be that hard to work with, it will be was of time and money. But the parts are an arm & leg, just for that seat memory switch is $100.00 for it. Now i just need some one to conform that will be the memory cpu, Or ?

bringing up an old thread....

Can someone post a pic and part number of the position control ecu(it should be on the box under the drivers seat). This is the memory seat position controller. Also if you can show a pic of the connector(s). There should be a total of 17 pins/wires that go to the controller(from what I can tell). Also post a pic of the memory buttons on the dash.

well..........I'm working on this. I do believe I can do it and it can be done. It just takes wiring up the right components--duh. The only thing I'm not 100% sure on yet is how the position ecu works. I think on the 4runner, sienna, lexus rx300, and some others I'm sure, (all the same part), the position ecu is incorporated into the switch assembly. From what I can tell, the position ecu just learns the position after the seat has been initialized. I'm just needing some good pics and then to get the actual part. The assembly is about $400(cheapest I've seen new). I'm looking for a used one all over the net to see if I can try to get this to work--anyone have a used one they want to sell? I'm about 90% sure I can make this work. I also need to see if the 2010 4runner's switch is the same as the non memory switches on above vehicles. If so, then this will bolt up to the existing switch location making this even more seamless. I'm going to find an affordable solution if it kills me.

Anyone have the connector pdf's and part number list of the connectors (maybe section K and L) of the 2006 wing diagram. The EWD I got from the forums for the 06 4runner is missing sections.

I'm also trying to find wiring diagrams of older toyota's/lexus's that have memory seats to try to use the ecu from it to retrofit.

Any help is appreciated. Stay tuned....

Just an update:

Just got done spending 2 hours in the Toyota parts office. This looks to be 100% possible to do. It's not quite a bolt up solution, but I'm working on that. The memory ecu is built into the switch. The switch is pricey. I'm going to be looking for the switch in the salvage yard and all over the net. I need to get one I can dissect to see if I can duplicate the circuit. As for as the memory switch goes, its a simple circuit. I'm going to make this work for the 2010 4runner first. The 03-05, 06-09 non-memory 4runners are going to be the similar though.

I'm still hunting for the switch. I'm trying not to buy one new (around $400 cheapest I've seen) yet. I've been searching almost every day. I found some salvage yards that have Limited seats (about $400) but won't sell me just the switch. I could buy the whole seat and hope to sell the pieces, but I'm trying not to spend that much yet. I've been looking on the forum, eBay, salvage yards. Anyone know of other places I can look? Can someone wreck their 06-09 Limited for me? LOL

I haven't looked at the wiring diagram...so forgive me if this is a stupid question...but have you considered trying to build the circuit yourself? There might be a way to do it...I am d/ling the stuff now. I am not an EE but maybe someone out there has an idea to make this a cheap easy fix vs an expensive seat replacement thing.

The wiring diagram doesn't show the internals of the switch (which has the memory circuit). It (the internals of the switch) is not necessarily a simple circuit. I need a switch so I can look inside and attempt to reverse engineer it.

ic....and it is expensive if/when you break one when you take it apart to reverse engineer it....it may almost be worth it to buy one ... 400 bucks....hmm....ive spent more than that on other mods hehe...if i have any creative ideas i'll let you know.

An idea...maybe a bad one but it's a thought...

It is an expensive part and so I personally wouldn't want to try this with my truck but if you know someone who is an Elec Eng (and if they had a T4R...even better)...maybe you could find one near you and find someone willing to let them borrow & reverse engineer the thing for ya. Or maybe an EE can make something for you. I was going to ask one of them today if they had any suggestions but forgot (sorry), too many of my own engineering things to deal with. If I remember on Mon I'll talk with one of the guys who has done the ee stuff for my projects (if I can get a hold of him). What I am thinking (for example) is he may know of an off the shelf item for say 100 bucks that will do the job if you build the rest of the circuit. Don't get your hopes up though...I am not making any promises just trying to think of a clever solution

What is the part number...I try and see if I can hunt a used one down.

Also, just want to make sure I understand the schematic of the system. There are basically four parts of the system. Memory Buttons (1, 2 & SET), Switch controls (buttons that move the seat), the ECM (computer that retains the seat positions) and the motors (that physically move the seat).

Connection wise, it would be Switch controls connect to the ECM that connects to the motors. The Memory Buttons connect to the ECM. Correct?

The mem v. non mem is a very different circuit. I'm certain that replacing the seat position switch and wiring harness you will be most of the way home. You will then need the door mounted memory buttons. I read that the door mount communicates via infrared to the switch. That's nuts, but if it's true you have 1 less issue.

Remaining issue: How to connect this (now w/mem) seat to the suv (not expecting mem). I'm worried that it won't get the right feedback and throw an error. If it can ignore it then your golden. You will likely need to create a conversion pig tail, or figure out what wiring harness comes from the suv side and buy/make the mem version. Best case here is that you just convert the pins from the new mem seat to the old suv non mem which should be easy...there are not many pins with non mem.

Worse case: the mem seat communicates via the connection back to the suv...then you def need that harness hooked up.

I'd say you have an excellent chance at making this work.
