Seat Odor

Hoping you guys can help me here. A year of shuttling sweaty mountain bikers has taken a severe toll on my interior. The rear seats have a pungent sweaty sock smell to them and I have tried just about everything to get rid of the odor. Shampooed the seats, shot them with enzyme infused pet odor remover and had little luck.

Do any of you have a silver bullet solution for this that I'm not thinking of?

Take the vehicle to a legitimate (Professional) car detailer. They have the steam cleaning equipment to sanitize the fabric; not just the seats! Allow them to do the carpet and headliner as well because all of the fabric will perpetuate, absorb and cross contaminate that odor! You'll be fine when they're done! 'Best to you',

Yup, I may end up just doing this but I was afraid they would have the same results. On a side note I used to live in Cliffside Park, miss Jerz sometimes!
 
Before you go crazy with professional detailers and wild concoctions, try pulling the seats out and leaving them in direct sunlight for a week (bring them in at night to keep them from getting damp).

Sunlight has a way of defunkifying stuff. Probably won't make them smell new but I'm certain it'll subdue the odor.

You would be shocked. Friend of mine owns a business that uses this tech and I had bought a FZJ80 that was smoked in and had dirty wet dogs in all the time. It was gross and I had planned on redoing it all.

Buddy brought over his ozone machine and I was skeptical. It worked and it kills all the bacteria that causes odor.

This is what I used on the cloth interior of my Tacoma for MTB "stink". Worked really well for me.

Zero Odor
 
After you get the odor out, throw some large towels over the seats when you plan on hopping in all sweaty.
 
I don't have a cleaning suggestion, but I would suggest seat covers. They're pretty much made to help deal with situations such as this one.

Covercraft has some poly/cotton ones you can throw in the gentle cycle if you want easy to clean. I use wet okole myself.

Yup, once I get the stink out that is what I'm going with next.

Vinegar is also very good at removing funk. 50/50 with water in a spray bottle works wonders on my MTB shoes and helmet pads, and I always add a cup or two to the wash cycle with my workout & riding clothes. Cheap too, 2-3 bucks a gallon.
 
Second the neoprene seat covers. Wet okole are the best imo. I had them in my old 3rd gen and they were amazing for beach days, muddy camping, sweaty asses, as well as munchkins spilling crap in the back.
