Seat problem part 2

Well, I have about had it with this driver seat issue. What started out as a tight seat deteriorated into a popping, clicking and moving seat last year and into this one. Two fixes by the dealership got the problem solved...or so I thought.

Slowly but surely the noises started coming back, and now they are worse than ever. It seems as though the movement and noises are now constant. Every turn, every stop, there is movement, popping, clicking, "crunching" sounds. It is so damn frustrating. I have opened a case with Toyota and the dealership has it now and have given me a loaner 4Runner SR5.

Anybody else have these seat issues?

Did your dealer replace your front seat? I ad similar problems and after 2 or 3 visits to the dealer they replaced the driver's side front seat and I haven't experienced any noises since.

That's the next step. Service rep has told me that he needs authorization from the DM to do it, so I'm waiting on that.

It's sad, I see Toyota quality slipping and slipping.

Did you ever have your seat replaced?

That may be where it's heading. I personally know the service manager, have known him for years, he's a good guy and has been doing everything he can with the seat. He's told me that Toyota has not approved that yet.

Well, here's the update. They had my truck for a week. They performed two TSB's, replaced the seat frame, re-upholstered it, and performed a TSB that called for shaving down the pins at the bottom of the seat.

I've had it for two days now and it's 90% solved. Sure, I hear a noise here and there, and feel it move sporadically. Much better but still not good enough. Am I being anal about this or should I accept as is?

Here's something interesting. The loaner I had was an 07 Runner with 5600 miles on it...and the driver's seat was AWFUL, popping, clicking, creaking and moving. What the hell is going on with Toyota and the (lack of) quality???

NO, you are not being anal at all. Moving seats could be a safety issue. I can't believe people are still having problems. Toyota needs to recall the affected models and get this fixed once and for all. I'm counting my blessings that my manual seat in my SR5 is good, at least for now.

Ive got a 06 SR5 with electric seats. Ive had the 4runner for about a year, and now the front seat feels like its falling apart! It creaks and pops all the time. Im gonna take it to the dealership next week.

Yep, that's the exact problem. I am not quite sure what exactly the dealership did this time to solve it, but for the most part the noises and movements are gone. From what I understand, they performed some TSB fix where they shaved the pins down a bit so that the seat doesn't have any play where it bolts to the floor. They also replaced the frame and cushions.

Seems ok...but I am just waiting for it to come back.

Keep us updated on your seat! I hope it fixes it for you. This will be my first warranty issue with the dealership. I hope things go smooth.

Took my 4Runner to the dealership today. The service tech checked my seat and said it was fine. No loose bolts or anything else. So I then gave him a ride and he heard the popping noise I was complaining about. They are gonna check it again when I go back to replace the catalytic converter. Is their a TSB on the seat rattle on a 06 4Runner?

does anyone have this TSB for the front seat noise / movement? my warranty is almost up and looking to take it in next weekend to have the seat fixed...

thank you very much! Recently, a coworker had the same problem with a nissan murano - he procrastinated and let it slip out of warranty and the seat actually broke when the suv had 36,600 miles on it - he is now facing a bill for $1050 to fix the seat!! nissan dealership told him to pound sand.
