seatbelts for wheelin'

Don't know about you guys but whenever I'm out wheeling in my 4runner, or in any car for that matter, wearing seat belts gets pretty annoying and uncomfortable quick. If you going down a bumpy road the lap belt cinches down tight on your waist, and if you lean out the window you get the shoulder strap rubbing into your neck.... Safety First though.:p

So I have decided to install some basic lap seat belts for the driver and passenger that I'll use only when on the trail in order to have more freedom of movement yet still remain safely restrained. They are the normal airplane style, one side with a male end and the other with the latch. They mount easily on the outboard sides to the d-ring that the normal seat belts mount too. But I can't find a good mounting point for the inboard half of them, either side of the center console on the floor. Any ideas? I don't mind installing d-ring there, but would like to avoid having to drill anything.
Just looking for suggestions :cool:

ive thought about doing lap belts up front for that reason, but to be honest, i dont wear a seatbelt when im wheeling, unless im wheelin in the mountains and have the possibility to roll over the side. when im doing that i just put the seat belt on and put the shoulder part behind my back, works pretty well in my opinion...
 
The only time I do ever wear a seatbelt is off road. I hate them but I have to be safe when wheeling. But when you do the lap belts the is a plug on the bottom of your driverside seat and if you unplug the connectors you will have no sest belt light! Its just a nice thing in my opinion

Sorry guys, but if you don't wear your seatbelt at any time when driving, on or offroad, then you are a complete dumb-ass moron.

But if relieving a little bit of pressure on your poor waist or wanting to stick your head out the window like a dog is more important to you than significantly reducing the very high risk of serious injury or death, then go for it. I'm sure your family will love you for that.

I agree, which is why I'm looking to put in lap belts that don't cinch down or lock so it'll be comfortable but also safe at the same time.
I'll use them when I'm offroading and just tuck em under the seat and switch back to the normal ones once we're back on the pavement.

The lap belt is better than nothing I suppose, but still doesn't give you even half the protection of the lap/sash belts. I've been been wheeling for almost 20 years and I ALWAYS wear my belt. Yes it occasionally gets tight, usually when you're off camber, but I've honestly never even come close to thinking of it as an inconvenience or annoyance. I've also been in two roll-overs while offroad, one of which was at a walking pace and the other from a tire blow out.
Also as a volunteer firefighter I can't even being to describe the emotions you have and see in others involved when I've attended a vehicle accident with partial ejection, and by partial ejection I mean an occupant stuck halfway through the windshield bleeding to death. All I know is after seeing that I will take whatever measures are available to avoid that ever happening to me.
 
i can vouch for it being a good thing to wear your seatbelt while wheeling, i usually dont wear it but i was wearing it when i rolled my runner a month and a half ago and im sure i would have got ****ed up if i wasnt wearing it haha

Another idea for the inboard end. Get an extra clip (insert), just like on the current belt, and sew the new belt through the loop. This way you can insert it into the existing belt holder, and easily release it when not used, instead of making a new anchor point.
