seats...and 3rd row seats

This is on the driver's seat. It is attatched on the seat. I think it was something they forgot to cut out. I was just wondering if yours was the same. It doesn't fold back down perfectly as you can see in the third picture.

I have done research. I know you guys are going to say you should have bought one with a third row in the first place. I should have and I wasn't thinking. Even though I only need it once a year on holidays, I am willing to install one. Yes, I know it isn't as safe but like I said I'm probably going to use it once or twice a year. I don't have a sliding tray. I found this on a 3rd gen 4runner.

I am wondering if it will fit in the 5th gen. This is what Jcwhitney says will fit my 4runner.

I am pretty sure this is the seat installed in the 3rd gen. Trailmax II Fold & Tumble Rear Bench Seat Vinyl Black*39440-01 by the Jeep Specialists | Morris 4x4 Center

They also have this seat on Jcwhitney. When i choosed my car, it said it will not fit.

Mine is the same, as is true for several (if not all) other members. This piece is evidently not an oversight from the factory, although I'm not sure I anyone truly knows what it is for. It has been discussed before and, IIRC, the consensus was that it was a flap to help prevent items drop down between the seat and console from rolling underneath the seat.

Now that I think about it, I can't remember if it was determined that the side flap was present only on the leather interior or whether it was also present with the cloth seats. Can someone with a cloth interior chime in?

I already saw that haha. I don't have a sliding tray though and I am not a big do it yourselfer. It would also probably be more expensive to order all the parts from the dealer. I just thought this would be easier. I would love to have the factory 3rd row seats if somebody installed them for me :thumb3: and if I would only spend a few hundred. Since I don't have the sliding tray, I believe I don't have those holes. I might have to drill them.

Drilling out the holes for the 3rd row install was the easy. If I had to order the parts from Toyota, I probably would not do it because of the price. I just lucked out that another member was selling his same-color 3rd row at a decent price. My plan had been to wait several years and attempt to find a wrecked 4Runner at a salvage yard and take the 3rd row from it.

I don't have the sliding tray like you do. I think I would have to drill all the holes needed. I don't think i want to replace it bcause of the price too. I will barely use it, but it is useful to have sometimes. This is why im looking at aftermarket third row seats.that fold up. I guess I'm going to have to wait until someonje else sells their third row or go with the folding seat. I really want that factory look though. Thanks and good job!

Before getting all worked up about not having the holes needed, you should lift up the carpet and check. My guess is the frames are pretty close to identical and some of the holes already exist just due to Toyota achieving economies of scale. Plus, a factory style look will more than likely look better than aftermarket IMO.

If you search the 5th gen forum specfically, other members have expressed interest in selling them, just not sure on your location.

It's just that I don't like ripping things apart. How would I take the carpet off? It's into the floor. Yeah, I would really like the factory lookand I'll keep an eye out.

Member Harper7 had the whole back out of his. Cant find the thread right now, but he gas pics in his Picasa albums. It seems pretty easy.
