God damn Mike, what a horrible story :dammit::wtf:. So sorry to hear about your trip, man that blows. Just think, WHEN you beat this thing you can celebrate by NOT going on a cruise this time and just head out to an Island with the wife, kick back and enjoy knowing you won. Keep your head high Mike, we are pulling for ya :cheers:.

That is a terrible experience you had to endure. I hope all the best for you. I'll be up in Seattle for 3 weeks around Christmas let me know if you need anything.
 
ugh. so sorry to hear that, Mike.

my mother, who was in perfect health, died suddenly and unexpectedly earlier this year from a pulmonary embolism. a blood clot formed in her leg during a long car ride... got out of the car... walked a short distance... fell to the ground... gone.

life is fragile. and short. keep passing the open windows, bro.

I am very sorry for your loss. My only bit of positive information that I can share is that the doctors tell me it is probably the least painful way to go.

If the heart attack hadn't happened I probably would have not been on blood thinners, but the downside is that I live with an elevated risk of clots for most of the year after the event. I was readmitted to the hospital Friday, which has left me with more web time and less home time, and yet I feel safer here. And my wife gets more sleep.

The doctor had removed one of my kidneys due to cancer. The next day he discussed my chances of recovery and handed me a medical book, pointing to a page where it stated that I had a 50 percent chance of surviving 5 years. That kind of thing stuns you to say the least.

That was 26 years ago today. Those were awesome years and I'm looking forward to at least 26 more.

The moral is - It ain't over 'til it's over. Keep a positive attitude and concentrate on the things that are really and truely important. It could have been worse, both for you and your family.

Thanks FR, I appreciate the prayers.

I wants to say "thanks" for all the supportive comments on this forum, but things have progressed beyond my body's ability to recover. Another incident will most likely be the last. We're looking into hospice and such. Please, do not call me as I can't get two or three words out and they are raspy and hushed as it is. Any emails or messages here will be read, but responses will be based on how much the drugs will allow me to sleep.

Thank you for letting me share a part of your lives, and please accept my apologies if I have failed to make amends for being an insensitive jerk. I enjoy interaction with people who challenge me mentally and intellectually, which leads me into a great many conflicts. If we sparred on the internet or real life, consider it a sign of respect for your brain. I apologize for any bad feelings I left behind.

Either my wife posting as me or java (the master drawer builder) will post here and let you all know when it happens. For all the people who have helped me out or just told me to shut the hell up, thanks. Go snuggle your spouse ;)

I've been following this thread from afar and I want to thank you for sharing your journey in this with everyone. It's way too easy to forget what's really important in life. I'm going to squeeze my wife and daughter a little tighter today. I don't often say this, but I do truly mean it - God bless you.

Simply don't know what to say.

I guess the thing now is to find the moments of comfort or enjoyment that you can.

I hope you find many.
