After a couple too many rollovers in MRAPs, I am a FREAK about strapping things down. It bugs my wife to have to undo the ratchet straps to get a drink out of the cooler, but I much prefer that to the alternative.
My only hiccup is my dogs. I'd sure hate to have one of them flying through the windshield, but adding a couple kennels to my load plan would just DESTROY my cargo capacity. I've been looking into those Raingler cargo nets to address this issue.

I presume they ride in the back and not the rear seats? we have harnesses that latch through the seat belt that work well for our dogs, Saved them from flying a few times too!(We have had to slam brakes before)

Amen. I'm beyond paranoid about that, especially with my son still rear-facing. Practically anything can become a projectile when Newton's first law takes effect.

But yeah, that's something I have stressed to a lot of people who's cars are just filled with loose objects...
I'd be careful about those nets as they can instill a sense of false security. What I mean by that is that many of them are more "barriers" than actual load bearing devices (mainly talking about those pet dividers ones). If you're going to use nets make sure they are anchored properly and securely, things like grab handles, trim panels, smaller cargo hooks, ect. are not really designed for significant weight (some of them like grab handles and panels are literally held on with plastic clips). I stress this to people who string up a cargo net from their hanger hooks/grab handles thinking it'll keep their 100lbs dog or large objects from crashing into the front.
