As our rigs get older, they require more maintenance. On our 3rd gens we are finding that some, if not all, of the alignment cams in the lower control arms are seized.
We are finding them when trying to remove them to get the LCAs off to replace the rubber bushings.
There really is no good way to remove the cams. They are a steel tube inside the steel tube of the bushings. They rust and corrode (even in Colorado) and are totally seized.
I have found that an air chisel is the easiest, and fastest, way to get the LCAs off. Just remove the bolts and air chisel the ends off. Then press out the whole bushing and press in new ones. Obviously you will need new alignment cans too. When replacing the cams, coat the tube with anti-seize.
It has recently come to my attention that 4th gens are also now experiencing this issue.
Usually when a shop says "we got it as good as we could", they usually don't tell you that the alignment cams are seized and they couldn't adjust them and it's close enough. I know of 4 people that have had seized cams and alignment shops never told them, including me. I found mine when I was working on my rig. It usually is close, even with stuck cams.
