I had trouble with mine as well. I eventually broke it free using a combination of a propane torch and PB blaster with a PIPE wrench. <---- I'm super weak too!

Just thinking here, What about just removing the inner and outer all together if I can get access to the inner with the boot there. I'm replacing them both so why break um apart if I don't have to...... Anyone ever do that with success?

yes, you can do it that way too.

anything to save a step.

Just got the boot off and wow that inner looks bad and just flops around easily. I had a feeling it was bad also but really had no ill effects in steering that I could tell. Tire wear is good also but its definitely bad. Also I tried my big wrenches on that inner but nothing would fit....that sucker is huge and so is the rack one but not as big....anybody know what size it is and the rack fitting also?

Have to wait for Mr Sun to come up now to try and finish it up and then on to the other side. Thanks everyone for your help...love this site and my 4Runner!

Do you have a pipe wrench? I just had this problem so I replaced the inner along with the outer all connected together. Used a pipe wrench and came right off. Didn't take a lot of pressure to get it off too.

Ok so got one side done tonight, Used a big pipe wrench on the ITRE and finally got it off. Was able to break the Jam nut off as well even though you really don"t have to. Big issue tonight was getting the knuckle to flush back up to the new lower ball joint. It just would not sit tight against it for some reason and finally got it with just pulling down as hard as I could on the knuckle and screwing in the 4 bolts as fast as I could. It was a bugger but I got it. So here are the old ITRE and OTRE.....they looked pretty bad so glad I was able to do this.

Now on the the passengers side in the morning. Should go alot faster now I know what to do....we shall see?

I took the ITR, OTR, and LBJ all out as a unit, and put new parts in. Saves a lot of time trying to break that stuff apart.

Looks like that may be what I have to do on the passenger side. Can't get that OTRE to break free and of course now it pouring outside!

Ugggg

Tip:

Ratchet strap.

Run the strap down the inside of the UCA, along the coil.

Wrap it around the LCA.

Run it back up into the ratchet.

Tighten down.

As you tighten it, it'll pull the spindle to the LBJ, all you have to do is make sure it's all lined up. Then, you can run your bolts and tighten them down before you take the strap off.

And, just for clarification, the UCA/Spindle won't bounce up at you when you take the tension off the strap.

Ok so got everything in and went to tighten on the last castle nut on the drivers side OTRE and put in the cotter pin and this is what I know have happening. The castle nut goes way down the OTRE bolt and much farther then the other OTRE bolt and will not tighten up due to the OTRE bolt spinning along with the castle nut. Here is a pic:

Not sure what I did different but everything looks the same on both sides but the drivers side OTRE will just not tighten without spinning. So I tried to C clamp the bolt will trying to tighten the Castle nut....no go....tried to lack the ball joint up from underneath to apply pressure to the OTRE...no go......tried holding the bolt while using a open end wrench to turn the castle nut....no go?

Is it possible I got a bad part from Toyota or if you have any other ideas that will help me get this OTRE tighten down I would be very grateful.

One Note:
There is grease seeping out of the OTRE that I am unable to tighten but none came out of the other OTRE....is that normal? Here is a pic:
