Sell my car for 4runner?

I have a 2003 Subaru WRX that I've been considering selling for a 2003+ 4runner V8 Limited. I was just wondering will this be too much of a change for me? I love having the super-quick acceleration coupled with the AWD, but the car doesn't have any clearance. I like the thought of having an SUV with some power, and I see that the 4runner V8 has a good 0-60 time and has a lot of torque. Is the suspension on the Limited really loose like some SUVs? That is my biggest pet-peeve: loose suspension.

What would you guys do in my shoes?

First thing I'd do is test drive a few 4Runners to see if YOU think it's too much of a change. If you think it is too much of a change, then keep what you have. If you like the 4Runner and want to ditch the Subaru, then start running numbers to see if the financials work out.

Whatever you do, make sure you get a 4Runner with XREAS.

It comes standard on Sport Editions and is optional on Limiteds.

Even with XREAS, the 4Runner will not handle anything like your WRX.

imo, the 4R is one of the best handling SUVs, if not the best. the XREAS would be helpful on road.

but i'd agree with the above. test drive one, see how you like it.

and yeah, its still an SUV. won't handle like a car..

I was faced with a similiar choice recently. I thought of buying an WRX (not STi) or a 4Runner. I test drove them both and decided to go with the 05 V8 Sport 4Runner (w/XREAS). I am veryhappy with my decision however no matter how good the handling is for an SUV, it is not going to be like your WRX. (Apples vs oranges type of issue). My advice is, just like others have said, test drive one and see what you think about it.

Personally, I would keep the WRX. Dont get me wrong, I love my 4runner, but the WRX is my favorite car. Is buying and older 4runner out of the question(under $5k)? Maybe you can have both!

I went from a 300+hp AWD Eclipse (8 full seasons at the strip and 9 on the street) that was slightly quicker than a Viper in the 1/4 to a 190hp 3rd gen and I do miss the power but I don't miss all the fix-its,race,105 octane race fuel,constant maintenance and the temptation to blow egos out of the water at every stoplight and I don't get speeding tickets in the 4Runner.
I also have been enjoying off roading since it was a nice change from the strip but I wish I could have afforded both.

Its still only a WRX and not the STI version. Ditch the Subaru and get the 4runner (after a test drive of course)

well, it might be, but I just wanted to point out that there's a huge difference and people always think that the WRX = 300hp.... but its not.

4runner will give you that ground clearance but it won't give you that conerning ability that a sedan offers. Personally, I wouldn't buy a sedan unless it was a a M3 or SC430 or something along those lines.

If its low.. can't be slow. If its slow.. people are gonna say oooohhhhh. (LOL!!)

I just traded my 03 Lexus IS300 for an 06 4Runner Sport and do not regret it at all. I enjoy going from a car to a truck. It started when I traded my 98 BMW M3 for a 2000 4Runner. I knew that the M3 was going to be the best car that I ever owned and realized that if I bought another car I would not be happy and would always feel that I traded down for an inferior product. So I bought the truck and I loved it. I then went for the 03 IS300, loved that and enough time had passed and I didn't look back at the M3 (really missed the truck though). Now I am back with a 4Runner and happier than ever.

With rising gas prices, the questions you should be asking yourself are:

1) Do I really need all the extra cargo space that a 4Runner will give?
2) Do I really need the ability to carry 5-7 people (depending on whether you get the 3rd row or not)
3) Do I really need the ability to tow more than 1,500lbs (something your WRX can do)?

If your answer is no to all of these, then keep the WRX. There's no point in it unless you just "want" the 4Runner instead.

Well, the cargo space would be a huge plus. I'm taking quite a few road trips this summer and some of them will be with 4-5 friends (and 3 other people in the WRX is tight enough). Then the following summer, I'm doing a huge cross country drive starting in Georgia, going to Kansas, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, up the cost of California to Oregon, Washington, Idaho and then back to California.

hello I went from a 04 wrx stage 4 245 whp to a sport v8 and it was a BIG change but after 3month 1500 miles I think that it is a lot like my wrx only bigger... i liked my wrx because of the traction during bad weather and it is the same for the 4r ... my truck is very very quick even the guys at my dealer said that I have a very strong 4r (they thought I had a chip or power adder) it can spin the tires at will untill the traction control stops the fun but once it hooks up she is a runner... Ive had it to the track and I ran a very very good time and suprised a few other 4r's my buddy has a trd supercharged taco and I can walk him... by 2 trucks... I think that it will take some getting used to but you can adjust to it.....I did....mike

It may not have as much power as the V8 but the weight difference plays against us in that match.

no mods yet .... my truck is at the dealer now having some work done and the service manager even commented on how quick it was????? is your frieds a 2wd? or 4wd ? I cant say why my truck runs so good but it does run very very well...
