Sell my radar detector?

So I have an escort 9500ix from previously owning fast cars. I no longer own these cars and only have my 4runner, which is obviously not speed demon. My driving style involves literally no speeding, maybe the standard 10 mph over. In anyones experiences with radar detectors, is it still beneficial to keep it for situationall awareness? I find myself sometimes speeding inadvertently when the roads switches from highway to city in my travels and get saved by the detector many times. Other than that, I never go more than 70 mph to conserve mpgs! Thoughts?

I too have one from previously owning a sports car but I've not transferred it into my 4R as of yet.

Once the summer comes along I will be putting it in strictly for S.A. The cops in my area are extremely strict on speed infractions in the summer and patrol with radar on at all times

I too like and use it now just for SA, but it was quite expensive and I don't think the benefit outweighs the cost. I have it for sale, and if I don't get what I'm asking I'll keep it.

For sale, $300, don't all line up at once speed demons. Lol.
 
I haven't owned a radar detector in over 20 years. My last ticket was over 3 years ago, and a radar detector wouldn't have helped me because it was one of those instant-on deals. My wife's fault... she hadn't been home to see her folks in a while and was pushing me to drive faster, and I thought I'd left a 55mph construction zone (turns out it was 43 miles long :0) so I was zipping along at what I thought was speed limit +9... got stopped going 24 over with a construction multiplier. That was a nasty fine.

Otherwise, I generally stay within +4 unless I'm in heavy traffic driving faster. Anything over 70mph and the MPG starts dropping noticeably.

I do keep the Waze app open. People can post police warnings and it notifies you if one is ahead. Probably more useful than a RD on heavily traveled interstates.

I've had various radar detectors in my vehicles for the past decade or so. I don't really use them anymore, even in my fast cars. Maybe one of those GPS enabled models or the phone apps might be worth it, but not the standard radar detectors.

That's partially because I live in a rural area. Last ticket I got was at 3AM and I hadn't seen another car in 20 minutes. I had almost talked my way out of it when "beep! beep! beep!"... the detector went off and that ended that.

The way I see it, speeding fines are just taxes. You should expect to pay them once in a while, it's the price of going fast.

With that said... it'd take some good luck to speed by much in the 4Runner. I was driving on the highway and saw some very nice red car up ahead. Not knowing what it was I decided to try and catch up... except I never made it. Couldn't say if it was a new Vette or a Ferrari or what it was... but there was no chance in hell I could catch up, even with his "cruising" speed.
 
I haven't owned one for many years either. Being my logical self, I determined that I went faster when I had a detector than when I didn't have one so I got rid of it. When I want speed and thrills I go fast down hill on my mountain bike. Vehicles are not the thrill anymore, they are a tool to move people and stuff wherever I want to go off road. The bike is the thrill, and the pain, and the modded one. I look at the bike more than I look at the 4Runner lol.
 
I got one for free from a friend. It works pretty well, but I don't trust it on its own. However there have been a few times when ive let my guard down and it has saved me. Its radar and laser. Not bad for free.99. Lol.

I have driven 4Runners mainly for the past 8 years. My trucks are both slow so a detector is not necessary, IMO.

Recently I got into Supras. I borrowed a detector from a friend, I liked it with the only exception being some new cars kept setting it off.

How much would you want for the detector, if you do sell?
 
Same boat here but with an antiquated 9500i ...don't speed much with the 4Runner, use Waze so I know where to slow down, and I've never had a speeding ticket anyway.:cheer2:
 
I went through the same debate. I was a loyal Valentine One (V1) user for nearly 15 years. The nuisance alerts from blindspot monitors was driving me crazy. I ended up getting rid of it and didn't really miss it for years. I just recently replaced my old V1 with a Passport Max360. I'm not sure if it has changed my driving but I do feel "safer" from getting a speeding ticket.

-they have gps antenna for your red light camera, speed camera locations
-blind spot radar sets them off ALL THE TIME

-directional arrows great for pinpointing the direction of the threat.
-no gps

k40 (this is what i run as a custom install)
-best blind spot radar filtering
-gps antenna but have to do manual location marking(thats why i run my 9500ix. just download the database)

I also run ALP, AL PRIORITY aka ANTI LASER PRIORITY

these are laser jammers. 3 heads up front 2 heads in the rear.
-only system that gives you a fighting chance
-you JTK(jam to kill), until you get to PSL(posted speed limit) and turn off the system so they can get a speed reading.
-tells you what you are getting hit with,
-as the guns get a update, ALP updates theirs.

what am i running this on?

2013 Lexus CT200h, had it for less than 2 weeks and clocked 2200 miles on it. I know you just said WHY? 45mpg, thats why. In georgia all but 3 counties run laser guns. super speed is 85mph or only 15mph over the regular PSL on interstate 75/85/95 thats easy to attain. BUT the real reason, LEO runs laser on absurdly low PSL like 25mph roads all day long and try and get you at 35 or 40mph.

In georgia, speeding is huge revenue and laser gun use has really limited cases getting thrown out. So its real easy to get a ticket.

So i run 5 head laser jammers, K40 360 Expert and my Escort 9500ix for red light/speed cameras.

btw these sensors when used with optional gps antenna will be "parking sensors" when setup as PDC under 12mph. scenario: traffic stop, those are jammers, no they are not, they are parking sensors. thats what the box says as they are imported to the USA from croatia!!!
