Selling my 98..a few questions

I have an SR5 98 with 184,000 miles on it. Everything still works, and it has been maintained since i got it with 150,000 on it.

There are some rust spots from where the fender flares were. I had to take those and the running boards off (4 wheeled over a dishwasher) KBB says its worth $8,000 in good condition, Nada says $11,000 average retail. What would you guys try to sell it at?

It also has a K&N air filter, I have new shocks and struts for it that I have not had time to put on yet. New rear break pads that haven't been put on yet.

Would trying for $10,000 be asking to much? I only paid $8,500 for it (Uncle is the head sales MGR at our Toyota dealer) But he said he was going to put it on the lot for $13,500. I got it the same day it was traded in.

I replaced it was a 1990 Celica GT-S, anybody know any Celica forums similar to this one?

$10k is a bit high for guys who know 4Runners since the miles are up there but $10k is a good starting point but $8k is a bit more realistic.

What's wrong with that? If someone gave you a deal on something and you resold it years later, you wouldn't sell it at market value?

It depends on location as well. In California, you could easily get close to 10k if everything checks out in good shape.

I guess that depend on your definition of a deal, but a truck with rust and almost 200K on the dash for 10000. Well like i said before no comment.

Sorry for the double post/ you said it yourself KBB puts it at 8000 in GOOD condition and rust doesnt exactly qualify as good condition. But good luck with the sale there are plenty of suckers out there.

that made me laugh, pretty funny reality check. I bought my 98 SR5 with 160,000 in EXCELENT CONDITION, excellent by kbb standards, the only thing was the miles, he was a fam friend with every service record. Anyways, bottom line, we paid $9,000. With visible rust and that many miles on yours . . . . good luck i would start at $9,500, and all your service records and expect to be bargained down to at least $9,000. Let me know what goes down.

I have a 98 sr5, v6, leather, tow package (and more upgrades but thats not important right now). Before doing anything to it and before i had it, it was my dad's. Summer '03 he took it to carmax when he got his grand cherokee to decide whether to have me keep my camry or take the t4r. At the time, the truck had about 60k miles id say and they offered us $10k. I don't know where you're getting these quotes of 8-11k for a similar car with 120k more miles and about 2 years more than mine had at the time but thats sick. I did a blue book on mine after the last accident and it said around 8 i think, and that was with around 73k miles.

I guess my point is that I dont know how you found such high quotes but if you did and it wasn't a mistake, good for you and don't take it to carmax.

I would say $10k is a little high. But that's my opinion. We looked at a '98 with 150000 on it, nice driver with no rust or damage. The guy was asking $8500. But we turned it down because of the mileage. If you put your shocks,struts and brakes on it you may get a little more. But do that before you place an ad. I'd say $8000 is more realistic.
