I still say buy a POS for $1500 and drive it till it dies. Keep the 4Runner for weekends and satisfaction.

I agree, but you gotta do what you gotta do. Its amazing how much that number in the Odo has to do with sale price.
ya just in the last month i went from 114,000 to 117,900 in one month 
I'm like great i don't want to get much more than that, and at this rate it will happen soon, I just want to get a decent pickup for like 3000 with 4wd to make it through the winter then probably get something else next summer, i think ill list it for 11,950 and hopefully get somewhere 11,000+ for it, its super clean inside and out, and runs great so will see what happens

I used to worry about mileage ... took mine from like 112k to 185k in just over 3 years... then i figured out there was nothing i would rather have anyway so i just keep doing maintenance and making sure it will last until Toyota makes something new that i would rather have.

I did this last year. Sold off my 4Runner to get a 94 4x4 Toyota Pickup.
Problem is that it doesn't get any better mileage than the 3.4L, and you feel like its powered by an RC car motor.
I used to love my first 22re that I had owned for about 5 years, but going to a V6 and back to the I4 sucks.

Why not just buy a few thousand dollar commuter (Camry maybe) and keep the 4Runner? I really don't think the miles mean anything on a 4Runner either if it's taken care of. But for gas mileage I would get a 4 banger and keep the 4Runner. My $.02
I'm looking for a beater for like $1,500 cuz it would be nice to have the other 10g in the bank!!! if its not 4wd i will have to keep my runner for the winter otherwise i will be SOL trying to drive around in a 2wd, i really like the the pickups/tacomas, even back in the 80's they still look sweet!

Sorry to hear that you're looking to get out of you 4rnr. I've owned both the 3.SLOW and the 22re (the latter is bulletproof, but it's still a 4 cyl after all), and I will bet anything you'll be kicking yourself in no time when you figure out how PAINFULLY slow & underpowered it is. People are always b!tching about the 3.4 being underpowered, and I'll bet they've never owned the 2.4 or 3.0 motors.
At any rate, it's your decision and putting 2-3k a month on a vehicle sucks unless you just don't care about it, such as a beater Carolla or older pickup.

If I were you I would keep the 4Runner, its the perfect vehicle for where you are. Then just buy something with a like a straight 6 iron block in it like a Jeep YJ which is pretty bullet proof. Or if you need gas mileage get an old VW rabbit diesel truck that gets about 50mpg and is also pretty bullet proof.
Be better off keeping the 4Runner and getting a reliable beater with good gas mileage.
Not to mention doing 100 miles a day even on the 4runner if you keep the maintenance up on it, definitely run synthetic engine and gear oil. You could reasonably get 350,000 miles out of it which for you would be about 6-7 years.
2800 a month which I assume has to be mostly highway miles unless you basically just live on the road you could let the oil go for about 4 months.
Then after 6,7,8 years or so just rebuild the engine for $5K and good to go for another 10 years.
Be better off keeping the 4Runner and getting a reliable beater with good gas mileage.

after some time to think about things I would like to replace my runner with a different 4runner 2nd-3rd gen, one that already has higher mileage that is cheaper and won't lose as much value after putting another 80,000k on it, I found this one i really don't care about the body condition, its all good except the back passenger corner, which I'm not to concerned about, I'm going to try to look at it today and see the maintenance records on it. does this seem like a decent deal though, to me it does if most of the maintenance has been done on it
