For those who don't know:
On November 10th 1775 in a bar called Tun Tavern in Philadelphia PA the Continental Congress signed a bill calling for the formation of 2 battalions of Continental Marines. The Continental Marines later became known as US Marines. Over our 239 year history we have NEVER lost a battle and have always served our country faithfully.
I served 6 years in the US Marine Corps as a grunt. I was in the 1st Bn, 7th Marines and then transferred to the 3rd Bn, 1st Marines SOC. I was deployed for Operation Desert Storm and also Somalia.
There is NOTHING in the world that I am more proud of than my service to this great nation.
To all my brothers, Happy Birthday and Semper Fi.

We have our origins in a bar. Go figure.
Former grunt from A Co. 1/8, here. Served under then-Colonel Ray "E-tool" Smith, who got his nickname for actually having multiple confirmed kills in Vietnam with a folding shovel.
While there, I was in one of the first small boat platoons in 1989, before being a coxswain was even assigned as an MOS. Also did barracks duty at 8th &I, and a reserve stint with 4th LAV's.

Capt Samuel Nicholas, first "Commandant of the Marine Corps".
Of the 7 I have in, 5 was "Green Side", and I would give my left nut to get back.
2/8. America's Battalion. Afghanistan 2009-Operation Kanjari
Afghanistan 2011- FOB Hansen working in the BAS.
I would give my left nut to be back with my Marines.
I'll never forget what my BC said before we flew out to our FOBs in '09.
"We are experts in the application of violence."
Never has anyone been more of an "expert in the application of violence" than the USMC.

Navy here, with the heart of a Marine. In case you know of Sailors & Marines who were on board the USS Tripoli the left San Diego on 1 December 1990, with ten or so other amphib ships on the way to Desert Storm, SALUTE THEM!
