Bad Sensor Or is my Transmission Going out?

Hello,

New to the fourm and have a few questions about my 97 4runner's Transmission.

I have a 97 SR5 4x4 with an auto transmission. It has the RR Dif lock button, The ECT power/norm button and the Overdrive on/off button.

When I slow down to come to a stop the Transmission has a hard time downshifting and kind of seems like it is haveing a hard time sinking up and gets very clunky until I stop.

Need some advice.

I seem to be in the same boat as you are. There is sometimes a slight jerk after you come to a dead stop. I feel it's the transmission or the solenoid. Can anyone here offer suggestions? I have a '99 SR5 V6 4x4

I had similar problems with my 97 SR5. Erratic downshifting, surging from 1st gear to idle coming to a stop. I also had the dummy light come on from time to time, then it just stayed on. I thought it was a solenoid on the tranny, but it turned out to be the Throttle Position Sensor (about $60). Not a problem since. Try that out... see if it works.

Not if you plan on just replacing it, but it's easy enough to test it. Get somebody with a FSM for your 97 to tell you what values you should be getting when you ohm out the various components and check for supplied voltages under various conditions at the ECM. If everything checks out OK, then you can start looking elsewhere - but at least you will have saved some $.
