Get your hiking boots, throw on some short shorts, drop your air pressure, and let's go exploring! I'm hanging out in Palm Springs and talked (suckered?) [MENTION=117408]Oneluv13T4R[/MENTION] into a good ole fashion desert run. We're going to go check out the mining district in Joshua Tree and check out the sights. Watch your step, it's still hot enough for the rattlesnakes to be out and about.

When: Sept 17th

Meeting: Love's Travel Shop off the 10 and Dillon
45-761 Dillon Rd., I-10 Exit 146, Coachella, CA 92236

Take the 10 freeway east towards Indio, exit Dillon, and make a left. The truck stop will be on the left hand side.

Time: 8am It's gonna be a hot one. Weather as of today is shooting for the 90s. We will be in the desert. It will be hot. There will be no shade. Earlier we start, the earlier we get done.

Bring water, food, snacks, a good attitude, lunch, dinner, recovery gear, etc, etc. I'm hoping to be done long before it gets dark.

Let's get out, have a good time, try not to get a sun burn, and get home safe. Our route is super top secret (Shit, I don't even know the details!), however be prepared to spend 20 dollars on a Joshua Tree NP pass. I'm betting we won't see a ranger, but that's not to say we won't and I like to support JT regardless as I've been going here for years.

You'll be fine. There's a long stretch before we hit anything technical once we get to old dale road, but it's going to be graded/washboard. I'm assuming we're either taking Berdoo or Pinkham into the park. Haven't done Berdoo, but I've seen pictures and it's mostly sandy and rocky, Pinkham is pretty much sandy and washouts. I don't think either one are going to allow the kind of high speed that Miah likes to run, haha.
 
[MENTION=117408]Oneluv13T4R[/MENTION] Looks like there's a heep group going to be out there same time as us, but we'll have a 2 hour head start plus they're taking pavement into the park which is another 30-45 mins from Dillon. I looked at the Facebook page earlier and it had 16 rigs signed up.

Posting the details as a comment for mobile users:
This will be an easy/beginner run on mostly dirt mining roads that any stock 4x4 can do. There are sandy roads, rocky areas, a few shelf roads, and one or two mildly steep climbs.

We will start the day in Indio/Cochella and head toward the Cottonwood Springs entrance to Joshua Tree National Park. After making our way through the park on paved roads we will hit the dirt at Old Dale Rd and air-down (mostly to just smooth-out the ride on the bumpy roads). We will then head across Pinto Basin toward the Old Dale Mining District.

We will travel through a rocky wash to the Rose of Peru Mine, the Gold Standard Mine and Brooklyn Mines. Explorers in the group will enjoy checking out each of these large mines.

After Brooklyn Mine we will then head into the Pinto Mountains, stopping first at Sunset Mine, otherwise known as "The Flag Building" for some photos. We will then head further into the Pinto Mountains making a stop at the Golden Egg Mine before traveling over the mountain ridge and into the heart of the Old Dale Mining District and on to Doberman Mountain Road and the Supply Mine area, stopping to take a look at the remaining foundations and exploring one of the (horizontal) shafts. Depending on the size of the group we may then continue on to Lorman Mine only a few miles away - a HUGE and rarely visited mine, complete with remains of buildings and other relics, but more difficult to reach.

The day will end, likely around dusk at the intersection of Gold Crown Road and Highway 62 in Twentynine Palms where we will air back up and say our goodbyes.

A few notes about this run:
*The weather man says it will be warm - in the range of 85°F - 95°F. Be sure to dress appropriately and bring plenty of water.

*This run will likely take all day and probably will not finish until dusk, possibly even after dark. Bring lunch, snacks, and more snacks for dinner.

*There are no bathrooms along this entire route. Be prepared to make use of bushes and rocks.

*Not everyone will want to hike up to the actual mines and/or not everyone will want go inside the mines so there will be plenty of fun and socializing back at the Jeeps while the explorers do their exploring. If you do plan to explore the mines don't forget your flashlights!

*MINES ARE DANGEROUS PLACES*
Please keep children and animals supervised at all times. If you enter a mine, you do so at your own risk.

REQUIREMENTS AND DETAILS
Any stock 4x4 Jeep or truck
Recovery points, front & rear
CB radio (Ch. 16)
A sense of adventure

MEETUP TIME/PLACE
We will meet at the TA Truckstop, 46155 Dillon Rd, Coachella at 9:30AM and will roll-out no later than 10AM.
 
4 Confirmed so far, just heard back from Sang with the GX470. [MENTION=128841]Spenny[/MENTION] you coming? Anyone else? I'll be around until 1230ish tomorrow afternoon, then dark until I get into Palm Springs tomorrow evening. Just want to make sure we're not leaving anyone behind at Love's on Saturday morning.

Berdoo isn't as wide as Pinkham and mostly unpaved road but there are maybe 2-3 sections with boulders about 1 foot in height that you just have to slow down for.

LOL. I was forced to replace my axles after trying to keep up with Miah :clap2:
 
My plans for tomorrow changed so I am going to try to make it. Just being out there at 8am sheesh. I'm not a morning person even for work lol.

EDIT my Radio is DOA so I have to get a replacement from Amazon. Shouldnt have checked the day before... Also is this 3yr old friendly? Never been to one of these runs yet.

Should be kid friendly. I usually have my 7 year old with me. He may or may not be coming tomorrow. It's currently 100 degrees in palm springs.

Miah and I talked earlier too, we're going to avoid the mines since there's a jeep group going and we are going to check out some box canyons. Same place and time for meetup.

Alright, guys I promise you this is going to be a run like you have never done before ...the area, the trails, terrain, views and sights are of nothing like you have seen or done before I pretty sure of it. Majority of trails will be soft sand, drift friendly, donut friendly mixed with some rocky sections and hard pack clay sections ..
There will be also a couple optional (most difficult black rated trails) for those willing and able....and this is black difficult like a white mountain, totally opposite of that kinda difficult. Mmmmmm..got you thinking.
This is going to be a fun ass day in a trippy, trippy area...at every turn you'll be like ...what. It not technical, with maybe a couple exceptions. This is a place where your gonna want to have your camera, go pro, and lots of empty memory cards..lol.
And yes this is completely kid friendly if they can handle being in the car all day.
Also this is not a place where you can just cut out and take off at certain point ..once were in were in its like a maze and trying to explain how to route you out you be lost for sure.
We will lose cell service as well so if your running any maps or what not ..download them for offline use . And with that I will tell you this ..download the area across from Joshua Tree on the other side of the 10 fwy exiting Chiraco Summit from there to the Salton Sea and you will be good to go.
Also bring a pair of comfortable shoes along with you..if we have time or make time we will stop somewhere very unique to check out , another mind blower.

For you guys than have birthday plans, wedding plans, funeral for your cat that died from your dog eating it....etc etc save all that for Sunday and roll out.

And this will be all day ...bring food, snacks, cool clothes, etc etc plenty plenty plenty of water.

At the Love's Truck Stop they have everything there as well if you just wanna pick things up there and top off your gas tanks they also have fast food there as well and across the street...there is also TA truck stop where the Jeep guys will be meeting in the morning if you would like to go with them instead .

See you in the morning fellas...
