Sequoia trails

So the lady and I will be in Sequoia National Forest, January 1st-4th. I'm wondering if anyone knows of a good trail or two up that way.

Also are there any must see or must do items while we are there.

there are trails all over SNF. find wherever you're going to be on google maps and look for forest roads, they're everywhere.
 
I will be staying around three Rivers actually just outside the park

There's a super cool campsite up by the needles look out tower, I'll send you the coordinates if you're close to that side (maybe tough to get to with snow).
 
There was one forest road that I found actually in the national park. Can't remember the name but it went down to a redwood grove. But it just kept going past that and I think you could get pretty far away from the main highway.

But also tons of trails north of Sequoia between the park and Hume Lake if you are going that way (Ten Mile Road). Just as pretty as the park in my opinion, and a lot less people (when I went over labor day weekend).
 
I'll have to look into some of that. We have nothing planned for the trip it's just a "let's go and see what happens" kind of trip.

They do start closing gates on some of the roads depending on where you're going to be. There's a bunch of trails up above Lake Isabella and Kernville, but I believe it's currently snowing up there. I'm assuming the three rivers area is off the 395? I don't have any experience on that side.
 
Central and southern sierra just got hammered by these last couple storms, if the trend continues you may not be able to do much exploring
 
Yeah it looks like they will have about a foot or so which I'm good with. We aren't wanting to go to crazy just a little off the beaten path since we will be alone

I'm from the Midwest. I've only lived in California since 2014. Snow and ice are not a new thing for me.
I never owned snow chains till I moved out here. They were never required out there.

Definitely call ahead and check whats open or not. California likes to prevent fun ie block access to un-plowed roads. There are a few great roads that shut for the winter even during hot drought at low elevations.
