Serrated Blade Lifetime

I want to know at what point do you sharpen your serrated blade to the point where the etchings, and grooves start smoothing out, and it begins to take shape to a straight edge blade?

Granted I messed up: twice, but still I use the Spyderco knife sharpener (never a fan of the Lansky), and be just watching me using that I see it as the best choice. Wondering if A. I am doing something wrong; or B. it's just the life time of the serrated blade.

Also, I have an email to leatherman about this problem, and more than likely they will replace the blade, but I will be without the tool for two weeks which really bites since I use it everyday.

Looks like I will have to go back to a Swiss Army knife, and a screwdriver/plier kit till I get it back.

I am not a fan of serrated blades. Among the reasons is that they are so hard to sharpen. Better to get a good quality knife that will hold an edge and then you have no need for serrations. I like the Benchmade Model 710.

If the solution was to just use another knife my problem would be solved. But the problem is this blade is on my Leatherman Wave, and I use just about everything on that especially the pliers. So just doing that away to get a Benchmade, or Swiss Army knife is not an option. More than likely I will be shipping it to Leatherman, but now I will need to find a good knife sharperner in my area.

Also, I looked at the model you mentioned: nice knife. But when it comes to knives I go Spyderco. Those are great, and the ambidextrous way of opening it makes things a lot easier. Plus you can get straight blade as well as serrated from them.

I figure even if I got a Lansky serrated sharpener I will eventually still have the same problem. Basically now I am just waiting for a reply from Leatherman.
