Service indicator question

I'm not used to all these new-to-me gadgets in the truck and have a question:

I have about 1300 miles to go before the 5k oil change @ 50k. I'm going on a trip that will be 2500+ miles and don't trust anyone to change it where I'm going (and don't want to take all my oil change stuff with me). I'm planning on changing the oil now (M1 5w30 HM), resetting the indicator at 50k when it goes off, but go 6300 total (I know this oil will go that far, no problem) and changing the oil again at 55k.

Anyone see an issue with this plan? I'm so used to going by the odometer and that's it.

What do you mean by HM? High Mileage? Why are you using that at 50k?

You'll be fine for 6300. Change now and again at 55k.

Yes, high mileage. It is a bit more robust that regular M1. You could use it from day one, if you wanted to, no issues.

Thanks, you two, for the info. I just wanted to make sure.

I typically run M1 at 8k-10k mile intervals and I tow every week. My 2nd gen went over 200k miles and my 3rd gen over 150k miles before I sold them. No engine/oil-related issues with any of those. Don't sweat it.
