setup question on 96 4 runner ltd

i am sure you have been asked this question a million times
but i searched and could not come up with an adequate answer
i am spending what seems to me a lot of money and i need some input from someone who knows what is going on with this issue

i have a 96 4 runner ltd with the 3 inch toytec suspension lift
i have been told that 255 85 16 tires will fit
can i go wider if i pound the pinch weld

they are stock rims

please help guys

i dont want to waste money that i dont have

Stock is 265 and that's the width of the tire so 255 is actually skinnier. With that lift I'd figure you could run 285s.

so 285 85 16 should be ok
if i flatten the weld

also will i have to use a new speed sensor
or regear to 4.88 with these

255/85 may be too tall.

255/85 is the same height as a 285/75.

edit: just read you have a lift. yeah they will fit..

i have 3.5 inches of lift and 305/70/16s

i (well my buddy did it!) cut the pinch weld, then sealed it with silicon.

thats the best way to go... pounding it may cause squeaks / rattles
