several audio questions.

I have a 03 JBL system in my 4runner. I added an Alpine HU and 2 12's with a MTX amp. I just got 2 sets of Hifonics Zeus speakers for the front and back.

Question 1.
First of all, will upgrading my speakers make the system any better? or can the HU only do so much that if the stock speakers arnt maxed out then will I be able to tell a difference without amping them.

Question 2.
Is it possible to run an amp to these speakers from the HU without cutting out the rest of the speakers. I have on the back of my HU 3 amp hookups. 2 of which are being used by my MTX and the other 2 have purple and green plugs into them. I think these go to the stock amp but am unsure.

Question 3.
Will replacing the stock sub in the rear of the car make a difference or again will that be the same.

Question 4.
Has anyone cut out the side of the doors to show off aftermarket speakers. All the speakers I have bought for previous cars have had covers but I have never been able to use them because of the door. How would I go about making the speakers show through the door without making it look like crap.

Thank you, any help is greatly appreciated.

I'll take a stab at a few of these.

#1. Yes I think that replacing the speakers will make them sound better. Of course the only way to reach full potential is to amp them.

#2. Yes I think you can. Not sure of what you would need to do though.

#3. I would not replace the stock sub unless you are going to amp the new one. I thought you already had two 12s though.

How would I go about double amping? Cant that cause alot of expensive problems running one amp after another? I was looking at the back of my headunit and there are 4 RCA cables coming out along wiht 2 Red and White cables for my amp. If I were to run another amp for my door speakers where would I connect it to? I have 3 options for amp placement, but they are all taken up by the stock amp. Is it possible to split them and run it to another amp as well as the the stock amp?

So right now you only have one amp and that is on your two subs?

If so, then sure it is easy to add another amp. You just need to get a disto block or make another run of power wire. Then you just wire up the new amp like you did the first one.

I have 2 amps. The stock system has an amp that runs all the speakers. I have an aftermarket amp that runs the 2 subs. The stock amp takes up 2 of the 3 spots on my HU. The aftermarket amp takes up the 3rd.

That is really weird. When I installed my HU I totally bipassed my stock amp. My stock speakers sound a lot better on just my HU then they did on the stock amp.

So right now you still have your JBL working and you also have two subs.

If you are going to amp new door speakers then you should get bipass your factory amp.

If i bipass the stock amp then how will the other 6 speakers be powered? Ill have to rerun all of those wont I? Is it possible to put 2 Y RCA connectors and run another RCA cable for both the front and rear speakers then just let the stock amp power the other 6?

I think if you wanted to do that you would need to get some kind of module or harness made just for the JBL system. I have seen it discussed in this section a little. I'm not sure what it's called though.

I think I may have found the harness to do it, but I'm not sure. Its harness number 70-8117. All the websites say its 204 long and Im not sure what that means. It also comes with another harness. Does this harness replace everything from the stock radio back to the amplifier or just the small section from one side of the amp to the other. Im not looking for a huge project.
