SF to Utah - Trail Suggestions?

Gonna be taking my friend out on an excursion. Would love to be about a week and half out. Gonna go to Zion as a final destination.

Wanna have some suggestions for trails on the way. Maybe do a few day trip off road? Have all the necessary stuff to do so.

Any good trails from SF to Zion!?!?! The pan American Trail is out of the way.
