shakin' when we brakin'

hi guys.. it's really more of a fast bounce/vibration on the steering wheel and entire front end.

I thought I had a problem with my brakes being worn, they were making noise and would catch really low. I decided to change them out. The mechanic ordered new ceramic pads, and new rotors...

The new brakes have 500miles on them as of today, about 2 weeks of driving.

When I first got them they braked fine, except when I would be going from say 80 down to 60..the vibrations would start slow and get more aggressive. Then as the miles have increased the shaking would start at lower mph's..

Right now it does it when I'm braking in traffic at 30-40mph..

I know I should take it back, but time has been limited and I want to make sure they fix their mess up - or diagnose my new issue.

My calipers looked fine, and I had them check them out in front of me.

So it's just when you brake? If so, it's gotta be warped rotors. Perhaps you have a seized piston or something. I don't know. Check the bolts on the calipers to make sure that they're tight. Look at the brake pads for uneven wear. Post some pics, maybe.

Yep, the number one thing that happens when your car shakes when you brake is that the rotors are warped. This can happen from hard breaking or constant breaking such as downhill, or anytime when the brakes can get hot enough to change shape slightly. The other thing is could possibly be is a problem with the driveshaft where it connects to the axle and the brakes. But that is a whole lot less likely than warped rotors. The good news is that if it is only warped rotors you don't have to buy new ones. They should just be able to machine them down and put them back on for somewhere around $70 or so.

$70??!! It's like $10 per side to get them resurfaced. And it all depends on how bad they are warped. Might not be able to get them redone. If it were me, I'd just get some Autozone Duralast brake rotors--2 year warranty--if they warp, they give you new ones.
