Shaking prob when Im on freeway....

I just bought a 2000 Toyota 4Runner SR5 V6. It has about 69k miles on it. I discover a prob when I'm going on the freeway. Once I go pass 65 mph my streeing wheel shakes like crazy, when I go over bumps and such. I never had a SUV before but I dont think it should be like that. Does anyone have the same prob. or does anyone know what can it be. I thinking it might be the alingnment prob, but im just guessing. However when Im on the highway going under 70 mph everything is fine no shaking of the streeing wheel.

70mph is a tricky speed, it seems thats where any balancing, misalignment, or loose part starts to make a huge difference.

When was the last time you got your tires balanced? Its a good place to start, from there, a rotation, alignment..if none of those help, get the front end looked at..

Look for loose/worn tie-rods, bushings, etc...

Check your shocks one or all may be shot ....... Hitting a small bump on the hiway with a blown shock will result in one of the wheels doing the shake thing. Also ck for a broken spring.

Thanks a bunch guys, I will try to check all these things at hand... just purchase this 4runner a week ago... hope I didnt buy a lemon... I have a toyota celica and it has over 200k miles on it.. dont want to drive any other cars now besides toyotas...

No 4Runner lemons

Yaouch-would we let you buy a lemon? No such thing in the Toyota truck family....

This sounds like tie rod ends to me. I just had mine done and it was just one side-driver's front. Now my baby rides smooth as glass.... :bigok:

I had the same problem with my new(used) 4runner after I bought it, the previous owner just put new tires on it and I ended up taking it in to get the tires rebalanced and rotated, fixed the problem.

i had the same problem and mine was fixed after an alignment and rotation which i need yet again!

mine, was fine before I got new tires put on...but they checked the alignment when they put them on and everything was ok, so they didnt do one...but now my wheel shakes, so i dont see how it could be the alignment...
