Shaking when decelerating to a stop?

What tires are on this truck? Aggressive mud tires slowing to low speed can cause vibration like that as you run up on each group of lugs, while you're hearing something plastic in the interior vibrating because it's loose. That's what it seems like to me at the end of the video.

Can you try driving at very low speeds between 0 and 10mph without the brakes on to see if this even has to do with the braking system?

Not the tires even though they are mud tires. The shaking feels like engine is about to die even though RPMs hold. Starting from 28 seconds on in the video is driving between 0-7 mph without giving gas and applying brakes. I did tap the gas pedal only a couple of times to get it to go just a tad faster, but no brakes. Still shaking as you can see.

Threw it in Neutral before slowing down to a stop, didn't make a difference. Still shakes and vibrates until it comes to a full stop.

we have ruled out the engine.

if its idling correctly, and removed from the drivetrain, that's not the problem.

after watching, and hearing the video, im going to say its the tires.


get a few good pics of the front tires, showing the tread. both from straight on, and at an angle.

Sounds like a tire is bad. but hard to tell by video. i was thinking driveline but. scratching my head. ok after listening to it again it is a shimmy SHAKE. at 5-10 mph it does it then goes away. to the eye the tires may seem ok. but certainly i would say one of your tires maybe bad on the inside. I know this may sound like hard work but get your spare tire and do the elimination process. if it still goes on then a worn out u-joint or some bushing

I don't think a tire is bad, that's just mud tires. Even my Cooper AT3s have some chop at very low speed and they aren't aggressive at all. Find the plastic that's vibrating in your cabin and fix it, that's what changed in the last thousand miles. We've already eliminated the engine as being a problem. I bet if you rolled the car down a hill with the engine off it would still make that noise. It's literally mud tire chop combined with loose interior plastics.

pull off front wheels and check the pads are seated properly.. and while your in there grab and shake everything.. at least you can rule out a bunch of things that way.

No idler arm on the 4th gens, its a rack & pinion. Also Lake Elsinore is nice, I used to live in Fallbrook for a while. Don't miss the summers though... X_x

Still don't know yet. But ruled the tires out.

I have the same problem w/ my 98 SR5. But now I have a bunch of stuff to check out and cure the problem. Hopefully we can both get this fixed, good luck to you mate.
