my steering wheel shakes/ judders when braking at high speeds or braking heavy, there is nothing from the brake pedal it is fine.

is it possible to be a disc or pad problem or more likely a suspension bush or something, there is no noises at all ie knocking, grinding or clunking

cheers

More than likely a disk problem. The shaking in the steering column is a token sign of warped disks.

My steering wheel shakes too. Not very often, but sometimes. When I got my oil changed I had them look at the brakes and they said they were fine.

I have had the same problem for 17,000 miles and a mechanic said the discs are fine. I'm thinking a bushing replacement on the steering rack should do the trick. Look at yours and see if the bushings have some play in them.

as the discs are easiest to check ill see if they are warped and check how true they run.

what bushes will need checked on the steering rack ?

My wifes 4runner has the same problem, check the passanger side wheel = if it has any play - could be inner tie rod or steering rack. I think thatt's the case on my wifes truck. 1998 4wd a/t
