She stalles all the time

My 95 4runner v6-4x4 keeps stalling durring driving but starts back up. Just before its going to stall the check engine light comes then goes away when I start it back up so its hard to find out what's going on. Is it the o2 sensor or gas problems?

automatic tranny? i probly wont be able to help you out im just trying to get a feel for your problem and by dumb luck i may know whats going on.
 
Does it stall driving down the road?. Or is it when you're stopped, with the engine at idle?.

My guess is that your engine idle is too low.

There's an idle adjuster screw on the throttle body, where it joins the intake manifold, if the idle is in fact too low.

The idle should be 800 rpm, when the engine is fully warm.

It stalls durring city driving and most times when I come to a stop at red light. The engine idles normal at all times. It give me no feel when it might stall it just does, but starts rigth back up and will stall again over and over some days worse mainly rainy or damp days but it will on sunny days also. (v6 4x4 auto trans).
 
hey i do have an idea of whats going on. 02SE is right, turn up your idle. I used to have a bronco that did that, its like the RPMs were up up up up up then id stop at a light and they wouldnt idle they just went all the way down to zero and it shut off.

Thanks man but if I'm driving and it just stalls out is that still idle problem seeing that the truck is going around 1500rpm's or not?
 
have you done all the little things yet, like cleaned your MAF and your throttle body butterfly? you may have a faulty throttle body, im not that familiar with the 95, but also try pulling your EFI fuse for a few minutes and then putting it back in. you shouldnt need to adjust your idle rpm unless you are running at like 200-300rpm at idle. i believe on the 3.4 v6 normal idle rpm is 750 +/- 50. have you been underwater lately? that always tends to break something, oh, and if none of this helps then have someone pull the code's. or just do that first. let us know what it was when you figure it out, good luck

Thanks dudes , the last work I had done was waterpump, timing belt, complete valve job on the engine and after all that truck runs strong likel new but this stall thing is new. Did drive over some good flooded spots but nothing major. So off I go to figure this out. Hope to tell u all what happens ....
 
I haven't heard of this issue occuring with 4runners, but I have seen it happen to a couple other cars. Does your key switch turn off very easily? I had a couple cars that the key would go back to the ACC position when hitting a bump. Of course the car would start right back up because there were no engine problems... You may want to check to see how loose this is...

I keep seeing all of these 3rd gen 4Runner owners talking about stalling/non-idling issues. I am a 4th generation Runner owner but I also own a '84 Pontiac car. These exact same issues started to arise with my vehicle in 1993-94 or about the 10yr old mark. Changed the fuel filter, fuel pump/strainer (inside gas tank), cleaned injectors, PVC valve, EGR valve, etc......etc!

After all of this work, numerous visits to mechanics and dealer; I finally traced it to the IAC "Idle Air Control" valve! This is/should be a part which screws into your electronic carb fuel delivery area. It will have 2,3 or 4 wires coming off of it. The function of the valve is to control your idle speed, your pickup/reduction speed when slowing down to a stop, and your intial kickup/kickdown air speed during engine warmup. The cost of the part for my little Pontiac is over $95 from a discount auto parts store (Autozone, Pep Boys, etc) soooo expect to pay a hefty price from the dealer.

Go ahead and buy a new one......do NOT steal one off an used vehicle at a junkyard. The sensitive air valve needle on the end of this part was charred with black fuel/carbon buildup when I remove it from my vehicle. The stuff was baked on hard as a rock. This needle is an automatic setting device. The manufacturer warns you not to touch or try to adjust the tip. When you first install this part....your engine will race for a couple of minutes then settle down as the new IAC valve learns the instructions from your vehicle's computer. This should alleviate your idle/stalling/surging problems. I have to change this part every 5 yrs in my vehicle. Let me know if this helps....!
