Shell regular grade vs V-Power: Does regular grade contain any of that V magic?

Am I understanding correctly that Shell regular grade is no better than regular grade from any other supplier and that if I want to take advantage of any benefits V power offers I must use Shells premium gas option?


The manual says 87 octane, which is regular, is what is recommended and I feel better stinking to that. From what I noticed at the pump, the only grade of fuel Shell offers with V power is their most expensive gas. :hatsoff:

Shell is high quality gas. But, yes, apparently only the high octane gas has the V power. I don't mind it so much as long as it is high quality gasoline vs local Bob's gas station. In addition, I fill up frequently at chevron gas station which has their additive in all grades.

There is a 76 gas station a bit further from where I live, would they be better as far as regular grade 87 octane is concerned.

Personally, I trust Shell over 76, regardless of grade. If anything, just use regular Shell and then every 5000-10000 miles, buy chevron fuel system cleaner. Quick and easy solution.

after trying shell, then chevron, then 76, all for about a year ech, i can say hands down i get better milage in all three of my vehicles with 76 over both the others. the 4runner is maybe 1mpg more tops, pretty negligable,but my s/c corolla consistently gets 2-5 mpg more with 76 than either of the others. thats on premium./ in the honda i use regular and notice about 1.5-2 mpg difference at best over the others. i dont feel any actual difference in performance with any of them, only thing i have noticed in the few extra miles on the ticker every tank. and i am pretty good at driving all three of the cars till they are sputtering around corners, always use the same pump at each station, etc so my numbers i feel are pretty accurate overall.

I always fill up half tank with v power and half tank regular shell the only reason I do half and half is because of the supercharger once in a while I do all premium v power, Chevron with techron is also really good

I try to use Shell all the time and I pay for the expensive stuff for my V8.
