Have you even googled the code? I typed in '4runner p0753' and the second link comes up with a solution and a detailed how-to on how to fix it on Yotatech.

I took my 4Runner to a transmission mechanic and had two shift Solenoids replaced. On the drive home the check engine light came on. At a stop light I took off and it jerked. Towed it back because I was afraid to drive it. Killed the battery and reset the light. Jumpstarted it and drove it a day later the light came back. Googled 4runner P0770 and it came up shift solenoid E. Do you believe that this could be the final issue, or should I get a refurbished transmission?

The PO770 is pointing to a Shift Solenoid "E" Valve SL malfunction. This valve controls the torque converter lock up clutch function.
Trouble Area:
The possible troubles are:
1) Shift Solenoid valve SL is stuck open or closed.
2) Valve body is blocked up or stuck.
3) Lock-up clutch problem.
When was the last time you had a transmission flush? Check the fluid, look at the color, and smell.

I had it flushed when I took ut into transmission shop. I hope that replacement of shift solenoid E will finally fix it. I hope not to buy a new or refurbished transmission.

Shift solenoid valve ‘E’ is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position. This is usually a bad (sticking) solenoid, but can also be a bad torque converter.

My torque converter started making strange noises, then my trans starting slipping and jerking and throwing a P0770. It's currently in the shop getting a new trans and torque converter. $400 for the trans, $750 for converter and labor (and that's very on the cheap side).
Hopefully you're having a different issue.

They seem to think its the Shift Solenoid E. Another couple hundred dollars. I think it will work. I'm not sure though. They said the dealer just wanted to put a new transmission in just because its easier.

The shop should have just put a generic trans solenoid kit in there the first time. If they are going slow, the job should take no more than two hours.

So finally got the last shift solenoid replaced. Seems to be shifting through the gears well. Every now and then it clunks at a red light. Which probably means it is the transmission. Its full of brand new fluid and still clunks from time to time. Uggh Service tech from Toyota could have been right.
